Original rating 2002: (Cask conditioned at The Grid, Southfields, London). One of the best beers I’ve ever tasted! Top rating at The Great British Beer Festival. A real ale bitter with a complex aroma and flavour, still it’s surprisingly light and refreshing.

Handpull cask at the Brunswick, Leicester. Slightly reddish brown and clear with a scummy beige head. Aroma is muted with some caramel and sweet spice notes. Taste is spicy sweet in the very first instance with intense bitterness drowning out everything else. Some tea-y fruit mid-sip. Bitter hop sitting on the tongue well after the finish. Soft carbonation lifting a light body. Not Oakham's best but decent.
