Description

Pour is a dirty blond with a white head. Aroma is sugar, yeast and a slight peach. Flavor is some fruit, white bread and alcohol. Finish has some grassy hops but they are very light. This was ok but a little watery and thin.

Pour is a cloudy yellow with a large white head. Aroma is yeasty, vanilla and corriander. Flavor is fruity to start out then comes some herbal tea and a decent hop backbone. Finish has some honey and spice. I quite liked this one. Had all the fruity, yeasty things you look for in a Belgian but with low alcohol.

30/12/2011 33cl bottle from Smetje en Zoon (Nevele) @ home - BB: no markings on the side of the label to indicate a date (2011-743)

Clear red brown beer, big creamy light beige head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: sweet caramel, fudge, dirty malts, very ripe to rotten fruits (plums), a bit sour, reminds me of vomit, though just a little bit. Not sure if infection or intentional. MF: quite some carbon, light to medium body. Taste: a lot of toasted to even roasted malts, caramel, nuts, mocha flavours, but also a weird sourish touch. Still thinking about infection, but as this is supposed to represent an "old style" beer, it could be intentional. Aftertaste: bitter hops, coffee, ripe to rotten fruits.

Slight gushing to absolutely huge yellow head over a slowly mounting amount of hazed amber to mahogany beer. Citrus, old winevats, vinous, lactic acid, red fruit and oranges on wine with a tad vinegar. Spiced bitter flavour, with again fruity and citrussy touches, slightly pharmaceutical, and perpendicular on the nose. Creamy MF, overcarbonated, thick-ish, slick body. Utterly unbalanced. Moreover, I fear for some infection, if relatively benign.

Capped 750 from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours hazy orange gold with a 3 finger collapsing whiteish head. There’s a strong citrus, light stone fruit aroma. Backed by some earthiness and yeast/spice. Full bodie - cause of the carb. Flavor is spice/yeast, banana, light stone fruit, touch of barnyard. This is delicious. Obviously very, very underrated. There is a tendency towards cod liver oil towards the finish, but a sophisicated palate welcomes the new.

Bottle: Golden to deep golden, hazy to cloudy, big - very slowly collapsing - creamy white head, sweet grainy-yeasty (aromas of turpentine!) nose, covering the - presumably - distinctive hops; moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied, creamy MF; lingering drier bitter-sweet finish with a phenolic yeasty-fruity aftertaste. O.K. ...............

Capped 750 from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Label says tripel. Gushed a bit. Pours dirty dishwater orange gold with a temporary fizzy white head. Aroma seems to be warm caramel/toffee with anise. Full bodied. Anise it is. Almost medicinal. Coriander? It is rather warming, so perhaps that’s those seeds. And it is a little citric. Somehow it all blends together in a very good way. Finishes fairly bitter. Note: foam keeps coming out of the bottle!

3/12/2011 33cl bottle @ home - BB: 2/2013, bottled: 8/2011 (2011-691)

Almost nothing but head while pouring. Amber to copper red cloudy beer, making this the most inaccurately named beer ever. Enormous light beige head, unstable, adhesive. Aroma: very ripe to rotten fruits, citric touches, come caramel, little bit of pickled gherkins, bit soapy. MF: too much carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sweet, rotten fruits, wet grains, some mocha, citrus. Aftertaste: bit sour, unpleasant bitterness, more lemony touches.

Hazy amber-brown body with a lightly brown head. Aroma of both caramel and stronger malts and hops. Moderately sweet, heavily bitter flavour. Distinct roasted malts and hops. Heavily carbonated. Bit on the unbalanced side, but still quite nice.
