2004, 750ml bottle. Pours a translucent, copper/caramel colored amber with a zero head. Smells of candy, medicine, malt and ethanol. Flavor is caramel, candy, vanilla, whiskey, wood, citrus. The finish is where this beer kicks it up, the heavy alcohol first hits the tongue and warms the mouth. The bitterness from the hops then takes over, tingling the mouth and tongue. The description says they intended to make you smile, certainly did the trick.

Poured a translucent mahogany red with no head. Aroma is mostly apples. Flavor is all hard candy, apples, sugar and pears. Heavy on the alcohol, thick and syrupy texture.

Bomber from my not so Secret Santa, theisti. Poured into a tulip glass with a big head that just won’t go away and eventually turns into a surface covering lacing. Color is murky dark orange, cannot see through the beer. Aroma is in general strong, sweet, citrus-tea. It’s surrounded by some nice perfume-y, bitter tangerine and a light earthiness (the only aspect that seems independent of the hops. Taste is medium-strong bitterness, with light pine but mostly a thick citrus. A medium body and a long citrus/bitter aftertaste. Now that I tried each Yulesmith I see what Alesmith was going for: this a DIPA and the winter a DIPA with a whole lot more malt and substance (understandably to have a more “winter" feel yet be a hop bomb), I prefer the winter.8/4/7/4/15 = 3.8

Alright, this makes sense, the Summer Yulesmith has been renamed. This DIPA is not longer as exciting as it was 9 years ago. OMG! Why am I still on ratebeer. This is astringent, cleaning product hops with a bit of a sweet malt base. At this point, I had a few sips and wanted nothing more to do with this beer. Bottle on 4/27/16, so about 2 months old. Purchased out of a fridge. 6/4/6/3/12 = 3.1

Hazy copper pour, with lots of suspended particles, and a frothy, lasting head - very strong, earthy hop explosion in the aroma, with notes of grass and wood, and lots of sweet, bready malts lurking underneath - "hop bomb" doesn’t quite accurately describe this beer - the phrase just isn’t strong enough - but despite the giganitic hop bitterness (which is herbal, woody, and just damn tasty), there is enough bright fruity flavors and vanilla and caramel sweetness to keep them in check - heavy, heavy stuff, though - sure, it’s a bit one-dimensional and extremely over the top, but what else would you expect from the style?

Bottle. Dark amber color with a big off-white head. Big citrus hop aroma. Big malt backing with huge hops. LIngering hop and sweetness. Hides alcohol well and is easy to drink. This is sort of like a more mellowed version of an arogant bastard - not as assertive and easier to drink.

Fruity, candy aroma typical of a Belgian tripel. Which this isn’t. Darkish gold color with a white head that rapidly diminished. Medium bodied with slightly fizzy carbonation. Lots of fruit, likely coriander spice, a wee bit of heat. Almost refreshing. The finish is a little sweet, and there were banana notes in a light way. Not much in the way of bitter, just a little along the edges of the tongue. Interesting, tasty. Arguably clean, assuredly smooth.

Bottle: Pours a rich, deep brown with a creamy tanned head. Thick lacing. Nose is smooth of chocolatey malts, heavy roast, and coffee. What impressed me most was the smoothness and balance of flavor. Silky smooth with chocolate, roast, coffee/espresso, and bittersweet cocoa. Simply marvelous and a wonderful creation from Alesmith. Thanks to both the traders who sent this brew!

Poured a transparent straw gold with a white head that quickly disappeared. Lots and lots of cardonation, evident in look, smell and taste. Aroma of bananas, candy and faintly of oranges. Flavor is heavy on the yeast, spicy with a strong flavor of champagne grapes. Finish is flat and a little stale in the mouth. Got this because is was AleSmith, but I wouldn’t recommend it to others.

Bottle from South Bay Drugs; Nose of caramel, brown suga, and piney hops; cloudy dark brown with a medium tan head that does some light lacing; Big flavor with raisins, caramel, sweetness, alcohol, and some dark fruit; body is medium heavy with a finish of a little bit of hops and some alcohol. Very decadent brew, should be enjoyed by us on the west coast who can get it and afford it ($11 plus tax and shipping)! Last Bottle 7/6/14 Still drinking very malty, fruity, and smooth just missing any hoppiness.

Bomber. Strong mixed aroma of citrus and pine. No room for malt. Golden amber color with a frothy white head. It laces a little. Thin to medium body. Mild carbonation that turns creamy. The flavor is strong citrus, with a lesser amount of evergreen resin, and some malt sweetness lurking about. You have to focus to notice the malt. There’s fruit in the finish, but I’d say more grapefruit than stone fruit. Mild heat. Nice enduring grapefruit. It’s a good one. Could stand up to some IIPAs. Made my millenium. Damn. A surge of sweet malt just snuck in. Looks like it will vary with time. Cool.
