Dark copper with a frothy, white head. Nutty, caramel aroma. Plus something like dusty oak. Taste is bittersweet up front, lightly bitter at the back. Medium to light body. Clean, refreshing feel. Nice, especially drunk cold and fresh from the cask at the source.

On tap at the brewpub, Düsseldorf, Tuesday 24th May 2022. Pours clear dark amber/copper in colour with a white head. Nice bittersweet balance, maltiness is smooth and with the bitterness runs dry quite quickly, more'ish' and soon had another. I really like this style and this is another very good example.

Schumacher Alt, 1-l-Flasche von Hopfen & Malz im Wedding. - Dunkles Kupferrot, klar. (22.1.2022.)

1 l bottle from 'Im Goldenen Kessel', bottled in November 2021. Clear, copper with a medium large, foamy, almost stable, off-white head. Slightly sweetish, malty, slightly grassy-floral aroma of caramel, toasted nuts and light raisins. Gently sweet, moderately bitter, malty, gently grassy, slightly fruity-floral taste of caramel, toasted nuts, some raisins, traces of vanilla and a touch of grains, followed by a short, quite bitter, gently grassy, quite dry finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Well-balanced and crisp Alt, even if a bit leaning towards a Helles. Wouldn't have guessed that it's dry-hopped with wet hop though.

Thanks to Erzengel! Pours reddish amber, fairly clear, with a foamy white head. Aroma of yeasty bread, some malt, herbal. Taste has excellent spiced notes, some toffee. Palate has a little sweetness, lingering oils on the tongue and throat. Good.
