Description
110 years of Contreras in a 190 year old brewery. In 1818 Brewery Latte was founded as a typical farm-brewery. In the second half of the 19th century the company was led by Valère Latte who sold the brewery in 1898 to René Contreras. In 1920 René Contreras chose to sell his brewery to his nephew Marcel Contreras. it was Marcel who would transform the brewery into a modern 20th century company. He shaped the buildings as they currently still remain. In 1982 Marcel's son Willy became the sole manager of the brewery. At the start of the 21st century Ann Contreras, the only daughter of Willy Contreras, and her fiancée Frederik De Vrieze gradually took over the daily management of the brewery.

Bottle, as Aakjær Premium Pils. A more or less clear one, slightly hazed, and topped by a dense, off-white to white head of moderate size. Yellow to golden in color. There’s a touch of celler in the nose, maybe due to age, as well as a fruity sweetness and some grassy notes. Some pale malts. The flavor is sort of citrusy, with pale malts as a base. Rather sweet, slightly plagued with cooked vegetables and some bitterness showing up towards the end. Not very interesting. 110406

Fresh, clean pilsener. Has a slight level of bitterness. Would make a great session beer.

11.2oz grenade bottle. Hazy, almost opaque straw yellow tan. Massive foamy head laces the glass. For a Tripel, gets a 5 for appearance from me. Sweet aroma, lots of candi sugar flavor with a pleasantly herbal and dry hop balance. Yeasty, creamy. Some interesting fruity yeast tones, brandied banana. Quite a unique Tripel, almost has a candied Hefeweizen thing going on. Heavy and full bodied, but good enough to pull it off. Quite nice and unique, a great Tripel.

[3/6/11] Bottle at ZBF 2011. Hazy golden with a big white head. Nice aroma of floral American hops with some citrus. Floral hoppy flavor with some fruits, a bit of yeast and a pleasant bitter finish. Medium-bodied. Good stuff.

Bottle: Poured a hazy dirty amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of light funky notes with some tart notes with some refreshing ester. Taste is also a very refreshing mix with tart notes and sweet Belgian malt with light refreshing fruity notes. Body is quite full with limited filtration with good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed and more refreshing then I had expected with nice level of complexity.

clear yellow, large smooth white head. very nice belgian, but actually mainly citrussy yeasty aroma. very refreshing.typically belgian, and for contreras, typically very refreshing aroma. nice job. flavor is faint citrussy bitter herbal hoppy flavor dominates unfortunately, still a good belgian, but it is a little bit of a letdown from the aroma. flavor is very dry, very tight, very belgian. very carbonated and bubbly, anyway- a tight super-dry tripel, that tastes really well.

Orange-brown cloudy beer. Very thin head. Just a little carbonation. Smooth and slightly frothy. Light malt with a citrus tone and a whisper of marmite! Slightly odd combo but goes down okay.

Bottle 25 cl. Comes as "Aakjærs Premium Pils". Pours a clear golden with a small white head. Sweet malty nose. Medium body, sweet malt, cardboard accents and a slight phenollic touch. Bit skunky too. Very subdued hoppiness. 080111

Aroma of big fruity notes, including pineapple, other tropical fruit notes, citrus, and some toasted grain. The taste is sweet bready notes, candi sugar, banana, citrus and other fruits, a bit of spice and bubblegum. Medium-full bodied. Nice beer.

Lemony, grassy hop aroma, some spice and a bit of honey. Tangy and clean. Brilliant deep gold with a fine, thick head. Clean, hoppy, fruity flavor with bread and just a bit of honey. Nice bitter finish. Crisp, light, clean and tasty. A nice, hoppy Belgian blonde, by far the best of the 4 beers I got from Contreras. Sports a rather saison-like dry finish. This type of hoppy Belgian medium weight blonde has become my favorite style this year. This is a pretty good example of it.
