Dean Swift. Bottle. Hazy amber beer with a tidy pale cream coloured head. Palate is minerally crisp. Light and thin malt. Light hops - nice orange and orange peel. Mellow pine and a whisper of tropical fruits and hop spice. Finishes crisp. Refreshing. Good start! A beer in the Kernel and Partizan mode. Will need to up the hop intensity a lot to compete with those stellar breweries though.

Keg at the Lyric - Soho, London. Pours clear, light yellow-gold with a creamy white head. The aroma has lots of spicy yeast and dough, some wheat. Medium sweet flavor with white sugar, esters, hints of grapefruit, lots of doughy white bread, faint hay. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish with mild herbs, more spicy yeastdominant doughy white bread, straight sugar, slight bitter staw. There is a mild dryness that kicks in at the end to slightly offset all the sugary, doughy bread character. Overall it is a pretty decent take on saison.

Keg at Lyric Soho. It pours lightly hazy pale gold with a small, fizzy white head. The nose is earthy, ginger, hay, toasty, light barnyard, pear and honey. The taste is bitter-sweet, over-ripe banana, honey, ginger, pepper, toasty grass, orange peel, candy and boiled sweets with a pretty dry, bitter finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Rather nice honey & ginger thing going on. Balance is also good. Nice work.

Bottle @ home. Opaque black color, small brown head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma has malts, dark malts and lots of coffee. Taste malts, roasted malts, coffee, bitter. Medium body and carbonation. Nicely balanced. Like it.

Bottle @ benzai. Pitch black colour with a small light brown head. Smells very roasty, lots of coffee, dark chocolate, great. Tastes roasty, some coffee, very bitter, sweetish, some tar and a bit harsh. Full body, soft carbo. The espresso is mostly in the aftertaste.

Bottle from York Beer and Wine. Murky, amber colour. No head. Very little carbonation. Aroma is a fusty red grapiness. Some fruitiness, but the NZ hops aren’t really evident. Long, fusty, slightly grapefruit bitter finish. I’d like to try this beer again. The condition of this one wasn’t up to scratch.

Bottle from Bier Huis, Ossett. Hazy, honeyed orange colour. Thin, white head. Aroma is white bread dough, pear drops and a subtle ripe cherry fruitiness. The ginger is distinct too, but not at all dominant. A ginger spiciness is evident on the palate too. A honeyed sweetness gives way to a dry, fruity finish. Lovely.

Bottle from Bier Huis, Ossett. Hazy gold. Thick, white, lasting head. As you’d expect. Aroma is ripe banana, cloves. Some lemony, yeasty sourness too. Sharp on the palate, but has a nice bready finish. Liked it.
