Nose is chocolate shavings, port barrel, vinous, figs, dates, mellow roast.
Taste comprises dark malts, cocoa sprinkle, vinous, oak, port barrel, toffee, fruit cake mix, subtle red wine.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, drying close with a balanced kiss of alcohol.
Tidy.

Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light nip of alcohol.

Bottle at home, 12th December 2025. Pours black and thick. Aroma is roasted malts, barrel, wood and liquor, with peat. Taste is sublime, roasted malts, barrel, liquor, chocolate and peat, whiskey, bitter and smooth. Lovely

Bottle. Dark brown color with no head. Aroma is balsamico, chocolate, roasty, earthy. Taste is the same. Low carbonation. Still an excellent beer.

2020 bottle but I cannot see a reason to rate under the 2020 entry. Same abv, same barrelling. Clear deep amber brown beer, bubbly pale tan head. Light palate, especially for the abv. a little dry, decent fine carbonation. Thin bodied dark malts but rich with a good cakey chocolate. Some whiskey barrel like odds and end before a soft but juicy red berry streak that carries a port like intensity. A little blackberry on the back end. Light finish. The whole affair slips down ridiculously easily. I would have liked a bit more of a sumptuous palate but it's a minor not pick on a rather splendid offering.

Bottle at Pigs Ear 2025. Gold ale. Lasting cream head. Good Belgian blond. Hop aroma im there. Good hops. Good bitterness. Now that is a god peppery hoppy Belgian creamy blond. Excellent. Properly bitter.
