Cask handpull at Market Porter. Deep chestnut with thin white head. Toffee, ruity malty aroma. More toffee in mouth with earthy hop finish which is a bit muddy. Tingling hop finish on tongue. Aroma may have a touch of diacetyl

Bottle. Molasses malt aroma - slightly tannic. Orange tinge brown - opaque with little head. Nice molasses malt flavor that gets more hoppy bitterness as it warms. Full bodied.

(Bottle 75 cl) Hazelnut brown and clear wit a tiny, off-white head. Malty nose. Lots of caramel and roasted malt in the flavours and distinct notes of nuts. Soft body with lots of warming alcohol. Sweetish with a light bitter finish. Would be a perfecy winterwarmer, but works all right even in august.... 020805

(Bottle 50 cl) Amber, slightly hazy, very limited head. Fresh, bitter with slightly smoked notes. Very light in body making this very easy to drink. Not a great beer, but quite sympathetic. Somehow the kid-brother to "Lia Fail". 010305

(Bottle 50 cl) Very dark, almost mahogany with a discreet off-white head. Extremely aromatic both from the malts and the very nice aroma hops. Dry, fresh in both nose and flavour. Pronounced bitterness. An excellent ale alltogether. 240205

Cask Conditioned at NERAX 4/29/2005
Copper colored beer with a foamy white head, good retention. Caramel-orange aroma, some notes of gingerbread? Flavor of dry breadiness, graham crackers and then BAM! a big dose of diacetyl. Doughy malt, bland and watery on the end, no carbonation.

Dark golden amber colored beer. Aroma of fuzzy green hops, some berries and toffee. Flavor is decidedly diacetylish, with toffee, lemons and bits of grainy malt. Another one where the diacetyl didnt go over the top and bother me. Medium body, low wateriness, low to moderate carbonation.

The bottle I found of this one said "the scottish pale ale" on it but it was clear form the first pour and sniff that this was really a bitter. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle the confused beer poured a caramel color with a small white head. The aroma was malty and sweet. The flavor had a sour malt and light nut flavor with a off flavored finish. A drinkable bitter but a beer with an identity problem.
