Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

Bottled. Clear amber, small head. Aroma of toffee and red berries. Dry and very minerally with hints of blue cheese. Medium bodied with clean, firm malt character and some orangey/grassy hops. Salty finish. Well balanced and very drinkable, but damn close to impossible to order unless you speak Flemish...

Bottled. Dark ruby. Roasty and lightly almondy. Clean mouthfeel. There’s notes of licorice and sugar, but the flavour is surprisingly neutral. Salty finish.

(Bottle 33 cl) Dark amber with a full and frothy head. Very dry, almost ashy flavours - far from the malty sweetness one would expect in a Dubbel. An odd sour finish almost reminiscent of Rodenbach although somehow not as quenching. An odd bird indeed. 301297 (Bottle 33 cl) As "Drongens Plezierke"Dark beer with a huge head. Soft and very malty notes in a nice balance with the hops. Very tasty and easy to drink - in spite of the alcohol. My kinda beer. 8/4/8/4/16= 4 130694

(Bottle 33 cl) Comes as "Witkap Pater Stimulo". Pale, cloudy golden with a neat, white head. Lovely flowery nose, and is that some wheaty, fruity esters I detect in there? Actually I do get a witbier-feel about this - could be the spicing. But this is fresh and quenching, and a very atypical abbey ale. 210697

(Bottle 33 cl) Dark brown with a decent, creamy head. Roasted, malty notes and even some hints of chocolate. Pleasantly dry though, making this a good experience. Short, hoppy finish. 130697

Very pale gold; virtually no head, just white rim. Typical grain/maltceiling nose. Grains, sweet malt taste, but with a fresh pinch of hops. Very light, watery texture. The bottom-fermenting beers from Slaghmuylder deserve to be unfiltered. Still they always feature this fresh character.

Bottled - Witkap Pater Stimulo (BB 06/2006)
Hazy yellow, small white head. Aroma has honey and lemon (dish cleanser). Taste starts sour, has fruitness but watery body doesn’t carry this beer longer. For 6% brew you could expect more.

(Bottle 33 cl) Deep orangey golden, very cloudy with loads of yeasty sediment. Extremely flowery nose with lots of yeast in there too. Dry, refreshing with a slightly bitter finish. A nice summer-beer I would think. 151293

This is a new beer for me. Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a medium yellow color with floaters and a large white head. The aroma is sweet, sugary, yeasty and has a hint of citrus. The flavor is sweet, tangy and yeasty. There is a surprising hint of alcohol burn.
