Bottle: Poured a black color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention and light lacing. Aroma of sour notes with light roasted malt and blackberry notes. Taste is also a mix of blackberry notes with some roasted malt and tart/oak notes with no acidity. Body is about average with good carbonation. Enjoyable dark sour with enough complexity.

Backlog, rated sometime last year - Hazy orange pour, aroma of caramel malt and citrus. The flavor has low bitterness, caramel malt, citrus, and maybe a hint of vanilla. Oh, I see. Best by 9/29/19 on the bottom. The hops likely faded. Shelf turd courtesy of the local liquor store... it's not terrible or anything but an IPA isn't likely to be all that great when it's months past the best by.

I had this beer a few months ago, making it something like seven years old. I figured a 16% abv Belgian ale would hold up well though. Turns out... maybe not in this case. It pours a hazy burnt orange color. The aroma is malty and boozy. It tastes very sweet. It's boozy and there's maybe a little caramel in there along with some fruity character, but mostly it's just super sweet. Too much so. This is underwhelming.

I am always on the outlook for a new quadrupel, my preferred style, and managed to locate a 750 ml bottle of Quad Radical. This one checks off a couple of additional boxes making it only more attractive, oak aging and fruit soaked in rum. I pull out out the Teku glass for this one because an unusual beer speaks for a different glass. The pour gives a dark mahogany liquid followed by a lingering parchment colored head. I pick up for the scent, ripe dark fruit and perhaps a glimmer of booze. I continue with a drink, yes, this is complex. There are figs, currants, chocolate, sorghum and intrusion by the alcohol. Rich and thick. Not a classic quad but something interesting and very good.
