Description
Elgood & Sons is a family-owned brewing company situated in the heart of ‘Fen’ country in Cambridgeshire, England. Home to Elgood’s is the North Brink Brewery which was established in 1795, and was one of the first classic Georgian Breweries to be built outside London.

In 1878 it came under the control of the Elgood family, and so it remains today, with the fifth generation of the Elgood family now coming through to run the business, maintain the traditions, and push the company boldly forward into the 21st Century.

Half-pint, cask ale at The Wellington. Shared with Finn. Bright warm golden body, covering white head, upper part lacing. Moderate pale malty nose added by dusty hops. Ripe citrus flavours, pale malty backbone. Distant bitterness to a malt-fruity finish. Satisfying. (Birmingham 13.02.2023).

Sample at GBBF Winter. Dark, clear amber, thin silky head. Malty aroma, sweet, bready. Malts get tannic in the taste, dry, woody. Sweetness disappears.

Cask at JDW Spoons, Eastbourne. Absolutely repulsive stuff. You get the rapsberry aroma which was okay but it is literally like some flavouring was added to a normal bitter - such an odd thing to do and produced a nasty off taste. Thankfully only £1.20 for a half.

Cask at the Falcon (JDW), Wycombe. Amber with a white head. Sweet up front with Ribena and raspberry cordial, then dusty twigs and damp straw in the mildly bitter finish. It's ok.

Cask-conditioned, at the Berkeley (JDW), Bristol 28/11/22. Amber in colour with a slight, white, head that left plenty of lacing down the glass. A decent bitter, with some hedgerow hops, biscuity malts and a trace of syrupy red berries, before a pleasantly bitter finish. Fine.
