Description
Elgood & Sons is a family-owned brewing company situated in the heart of ‘Fen’ country in Cambridgeshire, England. Home to Elgood’s is the North Brink Brewery which was established in 1795, and was one of the first classic Georgian Breweries to be built outside London.

In 1878 it came under the control of the Elgood family, and so it remains today, with the fifth generation of the Elgood family now coming through to run the business, maintain the traditions, and push the company boldly forward into the 21st Century.

Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours “bitter brown” with minimal cream head and good lacing. Malts to the fore in the aroma plus hints of traditional hops and autumn fruits. In the mouth it is slightly sweet but with a little underlying bitterness. Malts again in the flavour alongside biscuits, bran, and hints of nuts. Later on some traces of spice dark fruits and raspberries as well. Finish is slightly dry. This is decent.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A bright amber pour with a tight cream head; citrusy aroma; smooth in the mouth with a grainy body and citrus taste; then a sharp pithy grapefruit bitterness; and a lingering bitter finish. Refreshing and satisfying.

Pretty much a clear deep gold beer, small bubbly cream colour head. Nose is redolent of malt and fruity esters. Light and semi dry palate, decent fine carbonation. Smooth if slightly dry pale malts. Good malt sweetness, feels like a little clean raw grain in here is as well. Ripe citrus underneath and avalanche of esters. Banana esters, generic fruity esters, bubblegum esters on the back end. Light and semi dry finish brings a little spice. Hmm, says it's an English blonde but you could swap that for Belgian and, I wouldn't know the difference. Amusing, if you like very estery beers.

Clear amber beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Sweet malts, cream and caramel and a light malty chocolate, emphasis on the malty. Modest ripe fruits on the semi dry finish that also brings mild esters. Pretty sweet but quite drinkable and hides the 8.7% quite well.
