I like barley wine and I like De Molen. Time to see what the result is with Balcones. 330 ml bottle bought from Smaakhuis early last year and ready to taste now. I have my Delirium snifter in place, the wax and cap are removed and I tilt the bottle. The view is a caramel brown body accompanied by a thin ring of taupe foam. I get a scent of very ripe fruit, grain and a touch of booze. A drink and I have to say this is a rather appealing barley wine. Red plums, barley, raisins, toffee, honey and an undercurrent of whisky provides a small burn. A light carbonation, minimal feel but that is okay, it is a barley wine. Tasty. It's a shame I'll likely never see this one again.

Roodbruin troebel bier met schuim wat snel wegzakt. Smaak is fruitig fris licht zoetzuur en romig met veel framboos, wat vanille en room. Verrassend goed.

Bottle at home, darker orange brown beer, small head. Aroma is citrus, hops, malt, liquorice, light roast. Taste is the same, citrus, orange, grapefruit, malt, light roast, slight hopburn, light pine aftertaste, nice.
Chocolate raisins drenched in whiskey.

Backlog June 2009. Reddish golden body under a dense beige head. Strong aroma, complex and vinous. Malt, dry fruit, Sherry and alcohol. Taste is sweet and malty with sweet malt, vinous alcohol, dry fruit, some caramel and warming alcohol. Full bodied. Quite heavy but nice.

Licht geel bier met veel schuim. Smaak is bitter hoppig en fruitig met iets van citroen, wat mango en passievrucht. Uitstekend!

Bottle courtesy of and shared with Et. Poured a slightly hazy golden colour with a thin white head. The aroma is yeasty, light citrus fruits. The flavour is light sour, with a yeasty, herbal, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average to lively carbonation.
