Description
The former name was brewery De Brouwketel, which was in operation at the current location at least from 1706 onwards. In 1884 the brewery became the property of the Duysters family. In 1968 the company was transformed into Duysters NV (limited liability company) which was active as a brewery until 1973.

The Loterbol brewpub started in 1995 in a renovated part of the brewery from the 18th century. in 2002 brewing started in the old brewery building of 1908. Both locations are still used for brewing.

Pour is a dirty blond with a small white head. Aroma is a apple cider with a strong yeastyness. Flavor is citrus fruity and a nice fresh hop. Finish leaves some mild sweetness with a little bite of tartness. This was a good beer a month past its prime but for $2 outta the bargan bin this was a nice find.

Sampled at OBER Kerstbierfestival Essen 2011. Hazy red-brown color, small off-white head. Don’t smell much, just some malts. Taste malts, slightly sweet, earth. Decent carbonation, decent body.

37 cl bottle shared by beastiefan2k. The pour is a lightly hazed yellow golden, with a small white head. The aroma is the signature nose of 3 Fonteinen Lambic right off, funky, lemon citrus, grass, some wild yeast and lightly plastic notes around the edges. The taste is leathery, funky, mildly sweet lemon citrus, then a lot of chalky earthiness. As the beer warms, a pleasant wood character emerges in the taste. The palate is light to medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, and a clean funky finish. I mostly sensed the Lambic character in this, which was OK by me. Nice one, thanks for sharing Eugene.

15cl draft sample @ Kerstbierfestival ’11, Essen.

Bells are very slowly coming up in the glass, like a nitro draught stout. Pretty cloudy purple brown beer, small white head, more like just a couple of bubbles. Unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: dusty, wood, bit of raisins. MF: very little carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty fruity, strawberries, some sour citrus notes, bitter hops. Aftertaste: very dry, bitter ending. Very English feel to it.

750 ml bottle shared by beastiefan2k. Pour is a lightly hazed ruby red, with a brilliant white head. Aroma is cinnamon, cherry fruit, along with warming sugar sweet malt. Taste is the cherry up front, tannin cherry skin, and the warming cinnamon malt, and then thins out with a clean fruit finish (cherry plus some sweeter strawberry). As it warms, a touch of tartness enters the picture, though this was certainly not the main story. Palate is light bodied, along with soft natural carbonation, body thins way out in the finish. Interesting, though the fruit is a bit less assertive than I normally enjoy in this type of beer. Thanks for sharing this Eugene.

Bottle @ home. For the life of me, I can’t remember where the hell I got this. Reddish brown appearance with a very foamy, tan head. Fairly sweet, caramelized sugary, plum, raisin, red fruity aroma with moderate fruity esters. Dark plum, grape, fig, fruity, brown sugar, caramel, candy sugar flavor. Pretty sweet finish.

Bottle @ home. Slightly hazy orange color, thick white head. Smell malts, yeast, slight sweetness, barnyard and something herbal or medicinal. Taste a bit dry, yeasty, malty and a little earth. Low to medium carbo and body.

07/05 0.377 l bottle (where did they get that number?!), courtesy of Doggythedog, thanks for sharing! It poured hazy orange body with no head. Sour, vinegar aroma, pretty straightforward, but reveals malty sweetness as well. Fine flavor, mostly dominated by sour citrus notes, but balanced out with sweetish fruity and caramel malt. Not so heavy bodied anyway, while alcohol is still very well hidden. Fine long finish, again mix of sour and sweet. As expected this to be a sour ale, wanted it to be more sour, but this is an interesting combination as well.
