Really... this? Schlafly f’ed up somewhere along the way with this beer. Pours with a small khaki head. I will make this simple there is a good dry stout here, as was the idea but there is a bad alcohol aspect. That is where the beer goes awry. Its like a vegetal alcohol aspect on the nose. It is subdued in the flavor. It really ruins all the nice roast-y and sweet prune aspects. Not a foreign stout, really this should be called an Imperial Dry Stout (not meant as a compliment). .Maybe I am being bitter b/c I just drank the Cadillac Mtn Stout and that was just so perfect in oh so many ways.

Draft at Old Chicago in Overland Park, Kansas. Pour is brown ruby with a smallish tan head. Decent lacing as the beer falls. Aroma is caramelly sweet malt with light peat smokiness behind the malt. Taste is the malt, lighter caramel than the nose and a nice flinty peat one top of everything. Nice scotch. Palate is drinkable - on the thin side of medium, the smokiness lingers nicely in the finish and it has fresh lively carbonation.

Bottle on 02/17/2009. Fairly clear golden amber body with a medium rocky off-white head. Sweet toasty and bready malt aroma with some honey hints. Sweet toasty and bready malt flavor with some caramel hints. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.

Thanks again to Acknud for this bottle. Nice copper color with a decent beige head. Aromas of orange and clove. Near medium body with frothy/creamy carbonation. Flavor is orange zest and clove to me. There’s a roasted malt backbone. Finishes with something tending towards bitter that might be hop. Sort of a lighter version of the style. Quite tasty.

Bottle from Acknud. Many thanks!! Hazy orange apricot pour with a decent off-white head. Aroma of fruity hop. Near full bodied with very mild carbonation. Flavor is light fruit over caramel malt. It has a bit of tang not typical of an English ESB. Finishes dry, fruity and a tad spicy. Just excellent. This was bottled on 11/25/2007, so it may have improved with time. It’s really good now.

Bottle from Acknud just arrived. Came cool enough to drink! Slightly hazy amber gold color with a multifinger off-white head (Sam Adams glass). Lots of floral and citric aroma. Medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is light stone fruit, followed by a little citrus, followed by some malt. Finish is mostly dry, and remains fruity. Bottle dated 04/22/2008. If you’re holding, don’t worry, cause it’s holding well. It’s one of those floral beers that makes me think ESB. Hoppy ESB. I was just thinking that it’s my kind of light beer, and then I noticed the 8%! No wonder it’s my kind of light beer. And it drinks like 5%. Could be deadly in the wrong hands.

750 ml bottle shared by my friend Matt. Pour is brown, copper and orange - slightly hazed, with a one inch white head. Aroma of spicy citrus and sweet honey matliness. Nice pepper note. Taste is sweet honey caramel maltiness mostly, floral white pepper spiciness behind that. Yeasty. Palate is medium, grainy, with a fair amount of carbonation. Interesting, and well done.

Vibrant opaque amber. No head. Light malt and light spice on the nose. Balanced, herbal character with a spicy finish. Good malt signature. Nice balance.

Bottle 2007 vintage. Pours out a dark brown topped with a tan head. Aroma of bourbon and sweetness. Tast was of more bourbon and dark roast coffee. Along with some dark sweetness. This thin to me for a big BA Imp stout.

Courtesy beastiefan. Caramel colored, with a really nice palate. Natural feeling carbonation, full with a prickly carbonation, complemented by warming caramel-cookie malts and a tempting citrus orange quality, overall very cookieish.
