Bottled (thanks heemer77). Dark brown colour, small brown head. Aroma is strong coffeebeans, not much else is let through,except for dark choclate. Flavour is coffee, some roasted malts and hops. Some chocolate in aftertaste along with coffee. Very watery.

Dark brown/ruby color, small tan head. Aroma of toasted coffee and light hops, like sniffing fresh coffee beans. Dark toasted coffee dominates the flavor. Palate is quite thin, a bit too simple with just coffee beans and not much anything else - but very drinkable as such. Aftertaste fades away quickly.

Bottle. Tasted at Schlafly tasting at the Lukas KCMO wine bar. Nice barley wine. Aroma is sugary with a bit of the oak coming through. Taste is a bit more alcohol than I would like. Barley wine is good, though not as much body as I would like. I am also aging a bottle of this, hoping that helps.

Revised rating 8/17/07. 12 oz. bottle. Pour is clear dark orange with a quickly fading off white head. Aroma is coriander spice and some malt. Taste is easy drinking, spice, malt and a very light body. new rating [3.5]

Original rating 3/28/07. Bottle. Tasted at Schlafly tasting at the Lukas KCMO wine bar. Pour is brown, with some settling. Aroma has a decent spice to it, which really came out in the initial taste. Schlafly explained the additive was coriander, but I tasted more of a bubblegum and citrus fruit sweetness to it. Some nutmeg in there as well. Overall an interesting brew. [3.3]

Rating #300 - "Roll Out the Barrel" Bottle. Tasted at Schlafly tasting at the Lukas KCMO wine bar. This was a nice beer. From the initial aroma, you could tell this one was well hopped. Taste is hoppy, but a nice balance of malt in there as well. Some slight bitterness and sweetness in the finish.

Schlafly Pale Ale 12 oz bottles that someone brought to the New Year’s party and didn’t get to. Bottled with love on 11 03 2009. Pour is a hazed orange amber with a two inch slightly dirty white head. Falls slow with nice lacing. Aroma of mildly sweet floral hops and light toasty malt. Behind the floral and toastiness is somelight citrus peel. Nice balance. Taste is the floral toasty malt of the nose, again nicely balanced. Behind that is the tangerine peel. There is also a bit of a harsh spice thing in the finish which detracts some. Palate is medium to thin bodied, nice active carbonation. The citrus peel makes this crisp and nicely dry in the finish. Easy drinking beer. I am glad I retried this one, I liked it much better this time around. (7,4,6,4,13 - 3.4)

Bottle. Tasted at Schlafly tasting at the Lukas KCMO wine bar. Straight forward American wheat, in m opinion. Not a fan of the style, and this one does nothing to impress me.

I find this coffee aroma very very pleasing, as coffee is one my favorite aromas to begin with. Its earthy with a touch of roasted malt to boot. Brownish black color, opaque with a modest but thick tan head. Flavor is a tad weird, starting with a dominant iced coffee, moving briefly through a spicy phase that raised both habanero chili (without heat) and cinnamon. Then a pretty thin, dry, coffee-flavored finish. A real disappointment after that first whiff.

Well its a pretty fair oatmeal stout, but not at all among my favorites. Seemed quite a bit like a dry stout really. Poured a near opaque red-brown with a khaki head, very large and foaming, leaving foamy traces on the glass (I don’t want to call it lacing because it was too heavy and foamy looking). Dry roasted aroma and flavor, a touch of coffee. Dry finish. Not much rounded oily smoothness from the oatmeal, just a touch of astringency, which was accentuated by a carbonic bite.

Bottle. Body is dark brown, almost black with a half inch tan head. Aromas are somewhat weak and don’t do a great job advertising what is to come, but suggest a burnt malt with a sweet character. Maybe a touch of chocolate and molasses, too, but that could just be some interference from the flavoring. Mouthfeel is creamy and a somewhat thick, flavor has dark chocolate, molasses and a creamy finish. There are some smokey/peat notes, too, but they are subtle and don’t take over the show. Overall, the main interest here is the creamy flavoring and mouthfeel, which makes this a stout unlike any others that I have tried. While the flavoring and development could be slightly improved on, the way in which this blends an 8% ABV into a silky and smooth package is remarkable. It is a very different from other imperial stouts that I’ve tried due to its well-concealed alcohol and smooth finish.
