Description
Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project began on a shoestring budget in 2008. We exist to allow 20 year professional brewer Dann Paquette to make an honest living while giving his imagination free reign. We brew our beers in other people's breweries because we can't afford our own. We enjoy the up-at-dawn lifestyle and the freedom to brew beers of our own imagining. We brew all our beers ourselves: Dann brews and formulates, Martha mills in. We dream up our beers together, inspired by Europe, by history, and by BEER and all it can be. We are based in Somerville, but brew mostly in Westport, MA, hence the early mornings. Cheers!

Bottled. A deep red beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of caramel, over ripe fruits, spices, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, spices, over ripe fruits, and toffee, leading to a dry roasted bready finish.

Bottle, batch 2 (marked as May 2011). Pours with a hazy orange hued body with a medium to large, foamy white head. Strongly ester aroma with pear and vanilla, tangerine and pluots. Light phenols (pepper, styrofoam), bready, delicate malt character. Lightly spicy. Crisp. Some grassy hop qualities. Flavors are rustic, firmly bitter, spicy, bready, pastries, fruity esters: plums (tart/underripe), nectarine. A bit of a peppery phenol. Light stonefruit and grassy hops. Lively bubbles, and somewhat dry (but not immensely so for a saision). Neutral balance. Very drinkable. I’d drink this any day over Jack D’or.

Bottle batch 22 (from February 2011). Pours with a hazed, vibrant yellow body with a large foamy white head. Aromas of pear, esters, light apricot, peppery, grainy, wheat, straw, hay, oats. Light floral notes and a hint of bananas. Flavors are grainy, grassy, very assertive and nearly a harsh, herbal bitterness (high cohumulone aggressiveness). Thistle, toasty, light yeast tartness. Bitterness is out of balance for my palate. Lively bubbles, light bodied, very dry. Lingering phenols and bitterness.

Big thanks to Gillard for this one. It pours amber with copper hues and off white head. The aroma is pretty fruity with dried peaches and prunes as well as musty maltiness. The taste delivers hoppy spiciness and some yeastiness flowing quickly into sweet malts and some malt roastiness. Into the finish the spicy hops surge forward a bit.
