Description
In 1981, Peter Mauldon, the great grandson of Anna Maria decided to re-establish the family tradition and start a brewery in Sudbury once again. Peter had been too young to be involved in the original family business and had previously pursued a career with Messrs. Watney where he progressed to Head Brewer at the company’s large Mortlake Brewery.

19/7/2020. Cask at The Duke of York, Ipswich. Pours clear bright gold with a small white head. Aroma is hoppy, straw, citrus, grapefruit, malt, touch of honey. Moderate sweetness and bitterness, with a light citrus tartness. Moderate body. Nice bittersweet finish. Very nicely done.

4/5/2020. Sample courtesy of the SHIG, cheers! Pours clear dark gold with a small bubbly white head. Aroma of malt, hops, fruit, flowers, light caramel. Medium sweetness and light bitterness. Moderate body, slight oily and watery texture, soft carbonation.

Bottle: Poured a deeper golden with a off white head. Aroma is malty and a bit penny copper metal. Taste is a nice malty and bitter. No glits but good drinker.

23/4/2020. Sample courtesy of the SHIG, cheers! Pours clear pale amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, fruit and marmalade. Moderate sweetness and bitterness. Slight oily and watery texture. Odd tang to finish. Pretty ordinary Mauldon’s beer.

Bottle: Poured a pitch black with a tan light brown head. Aroma is full blackberry, light metal. Taste is blackberries, chocolate, rich malty. fruity finish.

Bottle: Poured a amber opaque with a white frothy head. Aroma out of the bottle is light skunk and sweet malts. Taste is bitter forward with a lot of toffee and sugary caramel malts.

Cask at the dove Ipswich. A clear amber coloured pour with a loose beige head. Aroma is nut loaf, dried fruits, nutty, hazelnut, coco. Flavour is composed of semi sweet. Layered malts, nutty, dried fruit. Ok. Palate is semi sweet, good cask condition.

13/3/2020. Cask at the Duke of York, Ipswich. Pours clear amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, bread, fruit, slight hoppy veggie edge. Medium sweetness with moderate bitterness. Moderate body, soft carbonation. Mauldons do make some good beers. This isn't one of them.

20/2/2020. Cask at the Chelmsford Winter Beer & Cider Festival 2020. Pours dark brown with a small bubbly off-white to beige head. Aroma of milk chocolate, toffee, moderate roasting, malts, dried fruit and slight ash. Moderate sweetness and medium bitterness. Medium plus body, velvety texture, soft carbonation. Mauldons best beer in my book.

20/2/2020. Cask at the Chelmsford Winter Beer & Cider Festival 2020. Pours very dark brown with a bubbly beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate, blackberries, roasted malt, toffee and dark fruits. Light to moderate sweetness and quite heavy roasted bitterness. Medium body, average carbonation. Wasn’t expecting this to be quite so bitter. Decent though.
