Angry fist of Santa tasting at Chris_o’s. Hazy amber, lasting beige, light acidic hop aroma. Decent hops. Little bit light in the malts. But it’s fine. It’s fine, but not great.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Dark brown colour with ruby hints. Frothy, beige head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of red berries, dried fruit, caramel and hints of chocolate. Fruity, malty, spicy taste with dark fruit, nuts, prunes, raisins and generous amounts of spicy hops in the finish. Medium to full body, fairly bitter and rather sweet. Brewed in Burton, Staffordshire? Seriously, you mean Belgium? No? Oh dear, I’m impressed, this is actually a little masterpiece in the abbey dubbel style. Excellent beer!

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Black colour with lasting, frothy, pale brown head. Roasted, malty nose with coffee, milky chocolate and wild berries. Roasted, malty taste with notes of coffee, chocolate, wild berries and generous doses of cocoa bitterness in the finish. Fairly dry with lots of bitterness coming through towards the end, nicely balanced by the fruity blackberry flavours. Very nice beer.

Cask handpull at The Phoenix, Canterbury. Copper, thin off white head. Quite a yeasty bitter, some toffee. It’s a fairly standard bitter, but with good flavours. Rather nice to be honest.

Cask at GBBF08. Fruity aroma, a bit roasted. Almost black colour. The flavour has a bit of mold, otherwise roasted and slightly caramelly.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Dark amber colour, hazy, with frothy beige head. Fruity nose with notes of orange, mandarin, apricots and caramel. Very fresh. Fruity, malty taste with a solid malt foundation, apricots, orange, caramel and generous amounts of earthy, citrussy hops in the finish. Fairly bitter, medium to full body. Malt/alcohol sweetness shines through. Rather uncompromising beer with an almost Blegian touch. Lovely stuff!
