Originally rated February 2008. Bottle conditioned with a best before date: 03 03 09. They do say to let the sediments settle, and not to shake. I usually like it with this stuff in the brew, but this time, I can say that the beer tasted better before I poured everything out. Now it is very cloudy, with an orange brown colour. The head is pretty decent with some creaminess and a beige colour. Good retention and lacing all-around. At first, I smell the rusty aromas I don’t like in beers, created by whatever hop (once I find, I will never use in my own brews). Then, after breathing, it seems to go away, and the nose becomes milder with some malt, roasted and caramel. Starts on little bitterness, then goes through a touch of coffee to then finish on a nutty aftertaste, which is quite nice. A bit expensive for this one, but worth a try.

Cask, handpump at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury, Bucks, consumed 27.09.10 Pours amber with a white head, there is a good body to this with a big malty backbone. Touch of alcohol showing, chewy and a little hoppy but not getting the Amarillo as described on the pumpclip. Really pleasant beer though I noted that by the end I was tiring of it a little so maybe a half is enough for me, but it’ll make a decent half. . A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

25 cl bottle from 2008 tasted 2010. Muddy copper with small head. Flavour is malt, sweet, dark fruit, caramel, sweet and wood. 25 cl bottle from 2006 tasted 2010. Muddy copper with no head. . Flavour is malt, dark fruit, caramel, sweet and vinous.

Bottle. Deept amber body with ruby highlights. Minimal head, most bubbles along the sides, rapidly diminishing. Strong, enticing malty aroma. Sweet with notes of caramel, prune, molasses, black cherry, raisin, orange, alcohol, sherry. Hint of fig and plum. The flavor is heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately to heavily sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Light acidity throughout. Full body, syrupy texture, little to no carbonation. A sipper and more like drinking a lherry than a beer. Nicely complex with a variety of malty, fruity tastes, especially the dark fruits of prune and raisin. A bit medicinal because of the alcohol. But very enjoyable in small quantities.

Not sure what to expect with this...Pours black with a large lasting head.Nose shows charred oak, roasted malt and sultanas. Not a strong aroma but whats there is quite distinctive.Flavours or the other hand show big roasty characters with little of the port coming through. Surprisingly smoky. Wierd.Carbonation is waaay too high!

Cask at Rake, London. Colour; mahoganny, slightly murky, no head whatsoever. Nose; dried fruit, sweet malt, smokey. Taste; syrupy, dried figs, plums, wood, caramelised bananas, slight varnish, obvious alcohol, long finish. Complex, but sip slowly with caution.

Cask at Market Porter, London. Colour; dark ruby, long lasting toffee-coloured head. Nose; caramel malt, coffee, smokey. Taste; coffee, dried fruits (including fig), caramel, bitter, wood. Overall not bad, but not great.
