Donkergeel bier met schuim. Smaak is licht bitter hoppig, fruitig en licht kruidig met iets van nootmuskaat en gember. Aparte smaak en juist daarom best goed.

Bottle @ home. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized brown to dark brown colored head that lasts for a short while but leaves good lacing. Aroma is malts, roasted malts, liquor. Taste malts, liquor, dark malts, some roast, brown malts, malt bitter, bitter. Even after a short break it still comes across quite alcoholic so in the end, while it started out ok, I’d say it’s not very balanced and the barrel aging -meaning: the liquor/alcohol- is too dominantly present. Medium to full body, medium carbonation.

Opaque black - brown beer, good tan head. Palate is smooth and fairly dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth dark chocolate laden malts. Touch of roast. Decent fruity bourbon. Trace of banana ester. Licorice. Dry and mildly spicy finish. Nice flavours but lacks the sumptuousness I like with big BA Imperial Stouts.

Bottle @ home. Hazy yellow-orange color, medium sized white head. Aroma is malts, hops, light grapefruit, light hayish and grassy. Tastes about the same. Very refreshing, refreshing grapefruity-like hop bitter combined with a touch of hayish / grassy hops. I like it. Medium body, quite oily texture, average carbonation. Nice.

Bottle @ home. Opaque pitch black color, full sized quite thick medium dark brown colored head that lasts for quite a long time. Aroma is awesome: malts, dark malts, heavily chocolate and coffee. Taste malts, coffee, chocolate and whiskey. Seems simple but it’s the other way around: simply awesome! This is definitely one of the best Imperial Stouts from a Dutch brewery I’ve had in an awful long time, possibly one of the best Dutch BA RIS I’ve ever had. Even though the bruichladdich doesn’t really show in the flavor. Provided you like coffee imperial stouts, this is very very nice imo. Thick mouthfeel, oily syrupy texture, suitable soft carbonation. Awesome!

Bottle @ home. Hazy reddish color, full sized off-white to beige head, a bit soapy but long lasting. Aroma is malts, hops, don’t get the barrel aging to be honest. Taste malts, some hops, some bourbon in the background but not that obvious. I don’t know what it is but somehow hops and bourbon don’t seem to be dominantly present, although it is a little boozy. Fizzy carbonation a bit as well. Hmm nah, I don’t like it very much. Never a good idea to barrel age (I)IPA’s.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Tom L’s place. Thanks Tom L. Black. Roast, coffee, slightly vegetal, some cocoa, a bit of licorice, a biot of dark fruits, light smoky note, sweet, bitter finish, a bit of alcohol, medium to full-bodied.
