(On tap) Cute variation on the IPA name-tag. Nutty brown and slightly unclear. Nice aroma from the hops, and a quite prominent bitterness.

(On tap) Pronounced darkish brown colour, nice slightly burned malt character and a good hoppiness (which turns out to be a house characteristica). Very typical fruity/flowery notes. More akin to a Brown Ale I’d say. 5,5% ABV

(On tap) Dark golden and hence darker than the typical German Mai Bocks. Very fullbodied with a very alcoholic touch pointing towards whiskey(!) Both malty, spicy and hoppy. An extremely solid beer.

(On tap) Almost grey golden, not as orangey as a German wheat, not as yellow as a Belgian. Not an easy beer to make out, heavy on the citrus-flavours, but somehow in a harsh and primitive way. Hasn’t got the refined and sophisticated flavour patterns as it’s German and Belgian counterparts. Surprisingly bitter for a wheat.

(On tap) Oatmeal Stouts are not that common, but the Heartland Empire makes a very decent version. Almost black with a slight reddish tint and a refined, light-brown Guinness-like head. Smoked but actually pretty light in body without a very prominent hoppiness. Pleasant and easy to drink. Has won several prices - deservedly.

(On tap) Heartland has six regular beers on tap plus a load of seasonals and one-offs depending on the mood of masterbrewer Kelly Taylor. Belonging to the last category is this beer - is Taylor a true "Deadhead"? Reddish brown in colour, low in carbonation. Nutty with some caramell sweetness, soft pleasant with a balanced bitter finish.

(On tap) Not that pale, rather dark golden in colour. As most Heartland Brews this hasn’t much of a head. Quite aromatic but suffering from a hoppiness that I find a bit too aggressive on the palate. Not that balanced.

(On tap) Heartland Brewery is one of surprisingly few brew pubs in NYC - this beer was tasted on rhe Union Square branch. Light amber in colour, pretty flat head. Brewed with coriander an oranges of which the latter are quite prominent making this a nice refreshing spring/summer-beer.

Cloudy copper/gold color - medium head and very spicy nose, with some slight orange marmalade - alcohol is very evident - it tastes like honey and coriander, with the alcohol pushing its way in, burning the taste buds - totally unbalanced.

Light and fruity - not nearly as hardy as I like my Oktoberfests - the finish was a bit hoppy and thin, not good for the style at all - sometimes when a beer defies expectations, it’s a good thing, but not in this case.
