Poppyland Brewery
Microbrewery
in Cromer,
Norfolk,
England 🏴
Associated Venue: Poppyland Brewery
Established in 2012
It is beer that’s based in north Norfolk, using barley grown and malted in locally, plus ingredients sometimes locally foraged but not excluding anything from anywhere in the world. Beer is brewed in small quantities 200 – 300 litres and either bottled or casked. All operations, from the formulation of the recipe to the design of the labels, is carried out in house.
Martin retired at the end of 2018 and Dave Cornell took over the brewery from the beginning of 2019. We have continued to follow the philosophy that has worked so well and the strapline ‘Adventures in beer start here…’ is as relevant nowadays as it was from the outset of the brewery.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Super hazy, deep gold. Thin, tight, creamy, off white head that stays the course. Good looking beer. Nose has fruited, yeasty bread. Rye spice. Cracked pepper. Light on the rosemary. Taste is fairly dry. Some bready sweetness. Lots of the rosemary on the palate, giving it an oily, slick feel, tempered by a light and bright carbonation level. Finish gets some spicy bitterness that grows and lingers. Haven't had a Poppyland beer in a while, and had forgotten how complex and enjoyably different they are.

Rich taste of molasses, wood, grainy chocolate and dark fruits. Lingering roasted bitterness to the finish. Well bodied. Enjoying. (Hotel Room, Norwich 10.07.2017).

375ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Hazy amber colour with a white foam head and aroma of floral, fruity yeast and earthy herbal. Taste is grainy, yeasty, slightly zesty with some floral notes, fruity, berry and earthy herby bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry tangy finish. Quite OK.

375ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Hazy golden amber colour, white foam head leaving lacing and nose of peachy hop, woody, funk with a strange plastic vomity overtone. Taste is coriander, sour, lemon rind, grainy, woody & smokey, fruity hop, funky with lactic and salty hints. Slightly creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry tangy finish. Nicely drinkable in terms of flavour, just a shame about the unpleasant note in the aroma!
