500ml Brown bottle, best before Jan 2012: poured into my Abbot Ale glass tankard in April 2012, some three months out of date. Good looking beer: amber and clear, with a full, rocky head of white bubbles. The nose is malty molasses with slight piney notes from the hops. The taste is a crisp blend of semi-sweet maltiness and hop bitterness. Malts rule the initial flavours with the hops arriving later in the mouthfeel as the mouth begins to dry. Easy to drink and although out of date I really enjoyed it.

Sunday evening: 22 Apr 2012. 500ml brown bottle out of date by a year: Poured into a vase shaped ’Old Speckled Hen’ badged glass (at home). Pale golden body almost lager clear: on top a full and deep white crown of foam. Boadicea and Pilot hops give the aroma a mild peppery feel that just over-shaddows the malted barley and wheat smells. The taste is a refreshingly pleasant blend of the above ingrediants: this is a well balanced brew that I really enjoyed. Full bodied for an English Pale Ale, a tasty beer that went very nicely with my mini Pork Pie.

Cask @ JDW Inverness...golden, clear, static bubbles, thin white head...aroma of soft light citrus malts...hint of peach. Taste of soft pale light citrus hops...golden pale juicy malts...light honey...alcohol well hidden. Palate very soft carb...very smooth...oily texture. Finish as main flavour with a slight zesty bitterness and a hint of cereal. Easy drinking and quaffable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hand pulled pint in a local pub 10 Nov 2011: Dark ruby red body, almost black unless held up to a light source: on top sat a head that was creamy in colour and texture. The taste and smells were very similar, bittering hops (Styrian Goldings, Millenium and Nugget according to the website) and roasted/toasted malts (Crystal and Chocolate malts). The hops just about won the smelling contest, the malts triumphing in the taste, the beer being slightly malt sweet with some mild hop bitterness in the finish. Easy to drink and the body strength hides the 5.4% ABV nicely.

During Jan 2012 my local Wetherspoons decided to launch a ‘Brewery of the Month’ promotion: that brewery was Limestone. This beer was available on a couple of occasions when I went in, this is a review when I actually had a hand pulled pint. The beer pours a light amber/blonde colour, clear but not bright like a lager: on top a thin white head that tried to stay and leave some lacing. No great smells came from the beer although the Maris Otter Malts gave off a biscuit aroma as the beer warmed a little in the glass. Those biscuit aromas carried on into the taste, with German (Hersbrucker) Hops blending nicely to produce an easy drinking, well balanced pint. The name is a play on Einstein of course: not sure what he would have thought of it? His bust was on the font label.

Cask at Hamilton Hall, JDW, London. Pours clear gold with a fine foam head. Zesty citrus and straw in the nose. Light to medium sweet flavor with sticky lemon, dry straw and hay, and some light dough. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Medium sweet and dry finish, with lightly earthy and lasting bitterness. A very classic golden ale.
