Appearance- golden, clear, then a bit of sediment comes out and it goes murky, plenty of bubbles, a small white head. Aroma- banana, wheaty malt, cereal, spicy hints, orange peel, fruity notes. Taste- wheaty malt, peppery spiciness, hint of banana, creamy full mouthfeel, slightly chewy finish. Very good.

Clear medium golden colour, small fizzy white head, mostly diminishing, minimal lacing. Shy malty aroma, light fruits, caramel, yeast. Kind of flat taste, medium sweet and light bitter, malty, wheaty spicy notes. Sweetbitter finish, medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, lacks freshness and wheat-character.

330ml bottle. Pours a murky orange-brown with yeast particles floating around and a medium, creamy, long lasting, tan head that laces. Sweet aroma of bready malt, caramel, raisin, prune, plum and brown sugar. Sweet flavour of bready malt, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, prune, raisin, plum, cinnamon, yeast and red wine with a dry, slightly tart, mildly bitter, warming booze finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Tasty, has some complexity.

Bottle from the Grumpy Goat, Reading. Dark brown with a beige head and a light fizz. Up front there's the (to me) unpleasant foam banana sweets taste that characterizes so many Belgian brews; fortunately here it's offset by a decent brown bread maltiness. On a second swig the banana sweets are left behind as other flavours rush in one after the other; coriander seed, chocolate, ginger, raisins, dark brown sugar, malt loaf, prunes, leather and figs. It's sweet, very spicy and lightly dry. A delicious, decadent and interesting brew that goes a little way to restoring by long-departed faith in Belgian brews. Nice one.

Bottle, Legacy. Dark amber. Medium head. The aroma is orchard fruit, but with some bubblegum phenols in there as well, and a splash of apple brandy. On the palate, a boozy combination of sugars and orchard fruits, maybe some candied orange peel for nuance. Finishes soft and sweet, though you can still taste the alcohol as well. Decent, but certainly not the more refined beer of its type.

Pours a not too attractive murky brown, with a slightly off-white head that shows decent retention and nice lacing. Aroma is caramel malt with a slight chocolate contribution, a bit of sugary softness, dark/dried fruit notes and slight spiciness. Very nice and quite intense. Taste as per aroma, with some light and pleasant alcohol warmth. Overall obviously sweet but nicely balanced by a dry and clean enough finish. Medium to dense body with average carbonation, quite mouthfilling. Overall nicely complex and well balanced. A very good example of belgian strong dark ale.

Bottle from the Ale Taster, St Neots. Chocolate brown, translucent and generally clear. Spicy pumpernickel and hazelnut scent. Sweet taste, hot and boozy with a sour nutty finish. Highly carbonated and very alcoholic aftertaste. Simple but delicious. What a beer!

Flaska från Saveur Bieré. Smak och doft av mörk torkad frukt, russin, plommon, karamell, portvin, brunt socker med toner av nötter. Rund och len, fin sötma och fruktighet, fin balans och sötma. Gott!
