Bottle - a surprise find on the Virgin Train on a trip from Euston to Manchester. A British Pale Ale according to this bottle, pours a pale golden colour with a small white head. Initial sweetness gives way to citric bitterness. Not bad, helped the train journey go a little quicker.

Cask at The Lyric, Soho, London. A hazy amber coloured pour with a small white head on top. Fruity, malty, caramel aroma. Tastes is similar, fruity, oranges, malty, caramel. Not bad but this was served way too warm on a sweltering summers day. Some London bars really need to get their act together regarding beer temperature.

Gravity cask at the Tap East Open Brewhouse Festival - Stratford, London. Pours lightly hazy gold with a fine, white cream head. Big doughy wheat aroma, some melon. Light to medium sweet flavor with rindy citrus and more wheat bread. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Light bitter hay finish, some juicy citrus and sticky wheat bread dough. Alright.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the epic Cotteridge Wines. Opens with a loud ’pop’ but, thankfully, doesn’t gush. The beer is well over-carbonated, though. The nose gives of smokey pale malts, some lemony citrus. Light to medium sweet flavor with more smoked malts, some pale white bread, minerals, light bitter straw and lemon peel. Light bodied with lively, mouth-filling carbonation. Light sweet to finish, further smoked pale malts, mellow dried minerals, straw, lemon, orange. Unless this is a smoked beer of some variety, I have to assume something is amiss here. The beer still tastes good and everything, though, which is nice.

33cl Bottle, thanks Harmen! Hazy golden orange colour, white head. Aroma of banana and butterscotch, yeast, light wheaty, some grassy hops. Flavour is also banana, light butter, yeast, firm hoppy grassy and light pine bitter finish that lingers a bit. Light to medium-bodied. OK stuff.

Tap East Open Brewhouse Fest. Cask. Light haze on this gold beer, decent white head. Light dry palate. Quite soft. Light bubblegum ester. Floral note. Sweetish generic fruits turning in to berry fruits. Light dry finish which introduces a little dryness. It all comes together quite well. A sweet tasty beer.

Big beige head. Opaque black body goes deep dark brown at edges. Roasty earthy toasted rice aroma with chocolatey notes. Dry-sweet earthy strawy roasted rice taste with chocolatey strawy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, smooth mouthfeel. Dryish roasty roasted rice aftertaste with earthy nougat and spice notes. Lovely and easy to drink. (0.5l bottle from House of Trembling Madness, York.)

Bottle at home in London - picked up at Cotteridge Wines. Pours mostly clear, yellow-gold with a fine, creamy white head. Tangy wheat aroma, some sugary tangerine and doughy malts. Light to medium sweet flavor, some lemon merengue, tangerine, lightly buttered pale doughy malts, light bitter citrus peel Light bodied with fine carbonation. Mild sweet finish with more tangerine, some citrus peel, faint spices, doughy wheat. Not a knockout but tasty enough.
