Description
After a great reception from his hobby as an enthusiastic amateur brewer, Toby Mackenzie and his wife Caroline decided to expand and go full time establishing the award winning Red Willow brewery in 2010. Their aim was to make the types of beer that they like - full of flavour yet easy to drink. Red Willow now offer a range of beers that can be found in many local pubs and shops in cask

Keg at the Euston Tap, London. Pours faintly hazy yellow-gold with a light, white cream head. Some jammy citrus in the nose, a bit of tangy grass. Light to medium sweet flavor, some dirty grass, a bit of tangy citrus, tangerine, lime. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Tangy citrusy hop finish, some with some wet grass, dank orange, earth. It’s alright.

Draught at Bishop’s Arms Vasagatan, Stockholm. Cloudy very dark mahogany colour. Aroma of licorice and black cherries. Sweet and soft with full body. Some lychee and black currant, distinct roasty coffee components. Fruity with sticky pudding tendencies. The bitterness keeeps growing to severe levels. A big, bold beer.

(Draught at MacKinlay’s Inn, Stockholm) Golden amber colour with brief, frothy, off-white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus, apricots and fresh, resinous hops. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of citrus, grapefruit, passion-fruit, biscuity malt and a fresh, solid resinous bitterness in a dry finish. Medium body, quite dry. Slightly sharp carbonation. Very nice beer.

Bottle from Jacks, Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon, consumed at home, Thursday 20th September 2012 Hazy amber with a large frothy white head, grapefruity, but also a little malty with a slight note of ’rich tea’. Lemon and grapefruit, bit dry, there is very slight wateryness, however it is a very nice citrussy decent beer. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Meet the Brewer at CP&K. Cask. Hazy gold - amber beer, little white head. Light palate, a little dry with low carbonation. Nice hops - lemon and pine with some green hop sting. Mild peach and tangerine. Quinnine is a surprise! Semi dry finish. Okay - could be a little richer.

Meet the Brewer at CP&K. Cask. Clear dark red-brown beer with a little tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry. Nice smooth black IPA - all the essential ingredients are here. Smooth dark malt with no roast or bitterness. Mildly bitter pine hops and great juicy red berry fruits underneath. All flavours well integrated. Smooth semi dry finish. Could just do with a tad more carbonation.

Bottle from Tomlinsons Beer Shop
Dark golden amber, big frothy head, good lacing
Aroma of caramel malts, biscuit malts, soft citrus fruits, light spicy note
Taste - caramel malts, soft quite rich biscuit malts, tangy citrus fruits, grapefruit pith, touch of grassy hop, marmalade, hint of spicy hop, hint of black pepper, good flavour, fruity for a bitter
Palate - soft carb, medium body. Some bitterness with a light caramel malt sweetness. Well blanced. Finish as main flavour with a gentle linger of spicy citrus hop and biscuity malts
Overall - I thought this was a well-balanced tasty bitter - it’s how bitter should be made - it’s on a par with Buxton Bitter for me

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 25/08/2012. Slightly hazy ruddy brown with a decent, off-white head. Sweet, caramel and berry fruit aroma with some grassy hops. Flavour was also sweet and fruity, with some green herbs and very hoppy, bitter finish. Good.
