Description
After a great reception from his hobby as an enthusiastic amateur brewer, Toby Mackenzie and his wife Caroline decided to expand and go full time establishing the award winning Red Willow brewery in 2010. Their aim was to make the types of beer that they like - full of flavour yet easy to drink. Red Willow now offer a range of beers that can be found in many local pubs and shops in cask

Keg @ The Cambridge Bar, Edinburgh 140712
Dark brown, some light through, off white head, some lacing
Aroma - roasted malts, dark caramel malts, soft citrus and grassy hops, quite hoppy but mainly its the malts, hardly any booze
Taste as aroma, soft grassy hops, nice mellow dark malts, very soft roast, some bitter chocolate, its really quite stouty and a bit a resinous hop.
Palate - soft carb, medium body. Finish as main flavour, more hoppy zest and roast malts - good balance between the two
Overall - This is a really good BIPA - quite stouty flavour

Bottle from Jacks, Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon consumed at home Sunday 15th July 2012 Dark brown, and much like my previous beer (just had) from Yorkshire Dales this is also flat with barely a bubble in sight. Some chocolate with a bit of wartery thin dark fruit. Tangy and fruity but sadly this is unusual for Redwillow in that I find this very ordinary at best. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov12 3.0

Bottles from Mr Lawrence Wine Merchants. It pours hazy orange, with a thick white head. The nose is tangerine, passion fruit, grapefruit pith, damp leaf and a touch of manure. The taste is tangerine, orange, passion fruit, grapefruit, tangy marmalade, resin, leaf and spice, with a pleasantly bitter finish. Flavoursome and well balanced. Good stuff!

330ml bottle. Pours a hazy, dark amber with a medium, frothy head. Aroma is herbal, basil with mango and melon. Taste is bitter with a little to start with a very bitter and herbal finish.

330ml bottle - pours deep amber with a thin white head. First notes are of aromatic grapefruit, citrus and heavy tropical fruits. Taste follows on from the aroma - grapefruit, alcohol coming through with passion fruit. Nice solid and thick body, heavy aftertaste. If only it looked better, it would score much higher. Recommended.

A real mixed bag this one. Pours virtually black with no head or carbonation. Strong almost stout aroma with burnt malts and cocoa. Surprisingly refreshing taste, lasting after burns of smoke and burnt toast with dark chocolate. Bit on the thin side... don’t know what to make of this one. It’s good, but it could be so much better.
