Description
Brouwerij Hommeles werd opgericht door Jos Eberson, Jan Ausems en Kees Volkers vanuit het Houtens Brouwcollectief.
Met het collectief wilde de drie mannen de Utrechtse speciaalbiercultuur op de kaart zetten door middel van brouw demonstraties,
een lokaal speciaalbierfestival met alleen brouwers uit de provincie en door het delen van de geschiedenis van bier in de provincie.
Het charmante Utrechtse Bierbrouwersfestival (UBF) dat werd gehouden bij Molen de Ster in Utrecht groeide al snel uit tot een populair festival dat uit zijn voegen barstte, en verhuisde naar evenementenlocatie De Fabrique aan de rand van Utrecht. Ook was de vraag naar het bier dat door de drie mannen werd gebrouwen inmiddels zo groot geworden dat er een flink assortiment was ontstaan. Geschonken bij cafés en restaurants in de regio en verkocht bij verschillende speciaalzaken. Zo werd een stichting een BV, en werd brouwen serious business.

Since 22 december 2020 owned completely by Huttenkloas where also all the beers are brewed.

Tap @Café België, Utrecht (11/12/15). Clear dark brown colour, two fingers of frothy beige head, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Strong hop aroma, roasted malt, light caramel, dark fruit. Taste is light heavy bitter, light sweet, malty, hoppy, light liquorice. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, bitter finish, spicy hop notes, pleasant and very nice.

Bottle split at Cafe Roots, Den Hague, 26/09/15. Clear golden with a decent off white covering. Nose is pale malt, straw, light flroal notes, orange, citric peel. Taste comprises melon, light bread, straw, bitter citric peel. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with light hop bitterness. A rather pedestrian IPA.

Bottle at home. Cola like dark brown with fizzy beige head. Lots of spicy honey, cinnamon, cardamom, cocoa, cola, ash, light toast and brown sugar. Medium sweet and under medium toasty bitterness. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation and slick feel. Interesting beer, not great but nice enough to have a whole bottle.

On tap at PINT Bokbierfestival 2015. Clear, reddish amber with a creamy, tan head. Sweetish-malty aroma of raisins, prunes and brown sugar. Sweetish-maltytaste of raisins, prunes and brown sugar. Slightly bitter finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Decent, but I didn’t get the smoke.

Post Borefts VII, Day 2 - Den Haag walkabout. Cafe Rootz. Bottle. Clear gold beer, small white head. Palate is light and fairly minerally crisp. Modest citrus. Mild pithy bitterness. Crisp minerallt finish. Not bad.

Bottle@Tuesday Taphouse Share, Copenhagen - Fuzzy golden pour with white head. Aroma and taste comprises citrus fruits and sweet malts, some caramel sweetness, a bit herbal and medicinal, slightly rough, just about passable.
