Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

50cl courtesy of and shared with Klaas.

50cl courtesy of and shared with Klaas.

When Bellwoods announced the release of four of their barrel aged beers on four consecutive Fridays I though of freeing up some cash from the kid’s RESPs to get on board. But then I came to my senses, (and the bank insisted I couldn’t take money out for beer, the bastards) and passed on the first offering, which was this beer. But low and behold I show up at BW for the second Friday to get my Lamba and they still had some. If fate wants me to drink beer than drink I shall. The straight Monogamy Centennial was phenomenal, so I was interested in seeing what putting it though the wringer would achieve. Pours hazy amber-blond with a minimal of oily head that reduces to a ring, and a mild sour grapes nose with a mild nose of peach and hay. The taste is quite the mash-up of doughy hay malts, soft vanilla-grape sour, .and a strong roll of peaches with the resin and perfume of the hops lost in the mix their somewhere. Thanks lady fate I enjoyed this one. See you all at BW for Friday number three.
