I’ve waited a while to taste this, ever since I was introduced to Schell, I have enjoyed their beers. Gunk on bottom of bottle, lots. Beautiful swirling unfiltered wheat beer pour. Nice wheat beer aroma, very attractive. Very light pale yellow orange haze and a small surrounding thin white girdle for a head. Fun and nice immediate palate, bubbly fresh and hefey! Spicy and delicious, spices do not overwhelm. Very good hefe experience. There is a developing attempt to be bitter, but the manners of this brew never lets it get there. No bitter aftertaste on the finish. Just what I expect from schell, quality beer. Not disappointed. Much better than troeg’s dream weaver. Almost as good as Erdinger Weissbier (Hefe-Weizen)!

Pour is a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is caramel malts with a little sugar and a doughy smell. Flavor is ok with some good roastyness and a touch of sweetness almost like honey. Not a bad little brew and i have had worse from this brewer.

Ever since I heard the intriguing name schmaltz alt, I‘ve been wanting to try this. I’ve been very happy, for the most part, with most Schell products. My interest grew more as I became more familiar with alts, one of my favored styles. I’ve also tasted Southampton and Erie alt. This 12 oz bottle has a cool label, though different than the other Schell styles. I am curious if that is Auggie on the front. Once poured into the steeler stein, the color is dark ferruginous brown and a froth of a thin tan head. Ubiquitous beer aroma laced with uncooked bread and roasted background hints. Not overly strong smell. Has a gustatory delight of roasted medium light bitterness. Feels like its trying to be a stout but never gets there with the choler overtones. Interesting and fun to drink. Frabjous medium low fizz and carbonation, not watered down. Overall a fine example of a good respectable beer. Finish has a short low to medium malt bitterness.

Ever since I started rating beer I’ve really liked the variety of offerings from August Schell. Carmel bock is one of my favorites. Schell’s labels are all pretty classy too. The label says this is a London Style sweet stout….really looking forward to it. Sweet stouts are one of my favorite styles. Brown 12 oz bottle. Pop the cap to reveal a slight yeasty roasty aroma. Pours dark opaque brown/black with very little if any apparent carbonation visible. However, during the first taste the tingly carbonation is ever present on your tongue. Very roasty with hints of dark cocoa, coffee and burned toast flavors. This beer has the personality of an imperial stout but without the obscene bitterness, very likable dark beer. There are slight hints of bitter hops in there but it is controlled well and is appreciable complex. This is another winner from Schell, as good as Carmel bock or better. I would imagine lovers of imperial stouts will rate this rather low without the bitterness being present. This does fit the style rather nicely tho, sweet stout should not be too bitter and this just has a hint. It is not offensive what so ever. Finish does have a laid back mild burnt hoppyness to it but it leaves you wanting more so you take smaller and smaller sips till, oh well, it’s gone! I wish this beer would be available year round but from the looks of it, this will be a one time offering. You better go get some before it’s gone.

Bottle. Amber pour. Decent tan head. Not much aroma or flavor in this one. Certainly not a bad tasting beer, but from an Oktoberfest, I expected more.

Bottle. Part of a Schell sampler. Of the 6 different beers, this was my favorite of the bunch. Brown-red color on the pour. Nice head. Taste is caramel malt, as expected. Body and taste were nice and full. I have had better bocks for sure, but this was one I could enjoy again.

Bottle. Amber pour. Flavor is very smooth. Malt, touch of hops, good bitter finish. Nothing too great about this beer, but nice easy beer to drink.

Bottle. Nice dark brown pour, quickly fading head. Straight forward, slightly sweet stout taste. Nothing special.

Bottle. Pours orange - copper. Aroma is malt and hop, though neither is over-powering. Taste is good solid Pale Ale. Nice malty body with hop finish.

Pour is golden / copper, not too much head. Aroma is bright hop, with some sweetness. Taste of malt and caramel. Finish is a touch sour, after taste is a touch boozy. Nothing special.
