Description
Leroy Het Sas : The original brewery "Het Sas", later Brouwerij Leroy, established in Boezinge in 1572; destroyed in the First World War and rebuilt in 1924. Named after a lock ('sas' in Dutch) in the nearby canal. Cooperating with Van Eecke (Leroy Breweries Watou) since 1962. Both breweries merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016.
Leroy Watou : Established as a castle brewery for the count of Watou in 1624 and also known formerly as Brouwerij De Gouden Leeuw. Has long been connected to Leroy in Boezinge through family ties, with both breweries cooperating since 1962. They merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016; the Watou branch now does all the actual brewing (while Boezinge handles conditioning and bottling).
From the website:

[33cl can from Beer52.] A straw coloured pour with a close white head; grainy aroma with a touch of hay; smooth with a herbal taste and a grainy texture; then a fruity bitterness, more herbs and some peppery heat to finish. A nice Belgian ale, not sure how this differs from the standard version.

Appearance: Cloudy deep gold with a pretty head. Aroma and taste: Apricot esters, apples & pears, spicy yeast, grass, floral notes, wood. Medium dry, Pretty bitter at ending. Mouth feel: Medium body, appropriate carbonation. Overall: Not bad. The regular version is better though.

330ml bottle from Racines, Cassel. Pours unclear dark, thin layer of loose off-white bubbles atop. Sweet syrup and brown sugar nose. Continues somewhat to taste, no roast, light bitterness, confidently sweet. A taste of history as this style is really not very common to see nowadays, sad that many don't seem to appreciate it.

330ml can via Beer52: Brewed and canned for Leroy by Brouwerij Van Eecke: BB 18th September 2025. Drank at home on 5th December 2024. UK Edition also mentioned on the can labelling, so obviously not the original, but a cheaper copy! It's OK to be fair, golden body, white topping, Belgian yeast like aroma with a fruity/spicy hint, taste is hop forward but not really bitter with the yeast fruit and spices all coming through from the aroma.
