Deep dark brown coloured body with an ever so slightly opaque glow of darker brown and a touch of deep bronze along with a thinnish, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of rye, candy sugar, deep pit fruits with raisins, figs and prunes all very strong and sweet in the nose. Medium to Full-bodied; Rich caramel and pitted fruit sweetness at first with a big dose of caramelised sugars, earthy and nutty malts and a light but evident side of the hops, all complete with a lot of sugars and residual yeast on the end. Aftertaste shows more of the sweetness, mainly coming from all the fruits, but also quite a bit from the yeast and unfinished sugars. Aftertaste shows much more of a roundness with the malt and earthy qualities coming through, but with so much sweetness and just the hint of fruit at the end under the sugars. Overall, a decent enough beer with a lot of caramelised sugar and sweetness throughout with a subtle but smooth spice element as well. Nice to try and worth grabbing if in the season and you can find it, as it has a lot of good flavours and a subtle finish with a lot of sugars throuhgout. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 24-February-2018 for US$1,75 sampled at home in Washington on 02-April-2018.
