Was quite surprised to find this one in a 750ml brown bottle at my local Métro store. There was a few cases of these, with 12 bottles in each one of them. Must be the first bottling for BDT. Bottling date on back label is 1/04/11 #1458. Pours a cloudy mohagany-caramel colour with creamy beige head, good retention and nice lace. Active tiny-bubble carbonation. Aromas of sugars, caramel, toffee, alcohol, bread, fruits (raisins, dates) and hints of bananas. Creamy, silky smooth and a bit oily mouthfeel. The alcohol is definitely not felt in the taste though. The hop is present instead. Grassy, lightly sweet with some tarty banana finish. Pretty good overall for the style. Just not my style (and I am surprise they chose this style as one of there first brew in a bottle). They have balls, I guess.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy deep amber color ale with a nice foamy head with OK retention and some light lacing. Aroma of deep brown sugar malt with light fruity ester. Taste is sweeter then expected with a very solid caramel malt backbone with limited ester notes (less then I was expecting) and loads of residual brown sugar notes. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Sweeter then expected with too much residual sugar – enjoyable nonetheless but more complexity from the yeast profile would have improve this one.

Tap: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a small dark brown foamy head with some retention and light lacing. Aroma of coffee and light smoked notes is quite enjoyable. Taste is dominated by balance dry coffee notes, though not overly so, with some light bitter roasted malt notes. Body is lighter then expected with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Good though body is bit light for the style.

Tap: Poured a cloudy beige/orangey color ale with a large frothy head with some retention and light lacing. Aroma of citrus and bitter notes are quite dominant with a non-descript malt backbone. Taste is also dominated by loads of green hops with distinctive notes of pine and citrus/grapefruit. Malt backbone is present though not very expressive. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol since there is so much hops. Well brewed though I like my barley wine more on the English side with less hops.

Tap: Poured a deep dark brown color ale with a small foamy head with light retention and lacing. Aroma of spices (maybe some liquorice, anis and some other s that are to distinguish in the mix). Taste is quite refreshing with loads of spices flavor though not overwhelming with some sweet Belgian style malt. Body is bit lighter then I was expecting with some good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting take on there style but fuller body would have provided even more enjoyment out of that one.

This is the first brew I had from this beautiful establishment which is close-by (on my first visit there). Pours a hazy dark amber colour with a decent head that is off-white. Yeasty aromas with hints of fruits (like bananas). Decent drinkability and medium-bodied. Good balance between the sweet malt and the bitter hop with a touch of bubblegum in the aftertaste. I liked my first experience and hope to go back soon.
