Cask-conditioned at the Lime Kiln, Bristol 16/6/2016. Golden with a slight, off-white, head. Some citrus fruits, biscuity malts, leafy hops and a decently bitter finish. Enjoyable.

Cask At Fat Cat brewery tap Norwich. Clear gold lasting white head. Golden bitter. Quite fruity like fruit salad chews. Quite a dry bitter. Very dry finish. OK malt hop mix.

On tap at the Raven, Bath. amber colour with a thick white head. Aroma orange malty. taste light marmalade citrus and sweet, with a longer bitter finish.

Cask at Fat Cat, Colchester. It pours clear dark gold with minimal head. The aroma is rich, sweet, oily, cereal and honey. The taste is sweet, oily, honey cake, toasted grain, cereal and porridge with a dryish sort of finish. Medium body and limited carbonation. A bit flat and sweet. Fair.

Cask at the Nags Head, Reading. This is one of those occasions when I wonder if I’m drinking from the same cask as everyone else. To me, this was full of blackberry fruit, rather than citrus. Nevermind, here goes. A slightly hazy pale amber pour with a tight cream head; aroma of purple fruit; smooth in the mouth and medium bodied, with nicely balanced fruit and bitterness; and then some sweetness to finish.

Cask at the Castle - Manchester. Pours deep brown with a dense, creamy beige head. Hearty coffee aroma, with sturdy roast, cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with nice and true bitter coffee character, bittersweet baking cocoa, some scorched earth. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation and creamy texture. Nicely balanced on the finish, but still with assertive coffee character, mellow earth, burnt toast, chocolate. Great coffee stout, and the depth of character is quite impressive given the relatively low ABV.

Gravity cask at the brewpub, Norwich. Light to mid-gold, clear with some spotty white head. White grape and gardenia in the aroma with an intensely astringent note. Tastes bitter with a suggestion of orchard fruit and lots and lots of sulphur. I don’t usually like sulphurous beers but this is OK. Approaching a Victirian-era pale ale a la White Shield, without the complexity. Still, good enough.

Cask at the Fat Cat brewery tap. Pours clear yellow-gold with a frothy white head. The aroma holds marmalade, grainy pale malts, rindy lemon, hay. Light to medium sweet flavor with doughy white bread, some tangerine, husky grains. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with pale, grainy malts, some rindy bitterness, dirty hay. An OK gold overall.

Gravity cask at Fat Cat - Norwich. Pours somewhat clear brown with a foamy beige head. Toasty brown bread on the nose with accents of cocoa and earth. Light-medium sweet flavor with further toasty brown bread, milk chocolate, dried berries, bitter earth, leather. Medium bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Nicely balanced on the finish with more chocolatey dark malts, cocoa, mild roast, earth, leathery berries. A tasty and very drinkable porter.
