Gravity poured half-pint at the Kings Head, Norwich on 20 Apr 2013. Mine was 6.4% ABV according to the chalk board. Light amber body with a thinning white head. Hoppy with a dry finish: expected more to be honest, this was one of four high alcohol beers on gravity pour during the CAMRA AGM weekend in Norwich that this pub put on (along with a host of hand-pulls). I tried all four (and three hand-pulls), this was the least interesting of the stronger brews that day. Although hoppy it lacked oomph, or class: nothing wrong with it, just when against other beers of the same alcohol content it faded into the background somewhat.

Cask at the Merchants Inn, Rugby, 03/04/13. Very lightly hazed golden with a decent sized off white head. Nose carries notes of grain, pale malt, orange, sugars, caramel. Taste comprises caramel malt, bread dough, light citrus notes, orange twang. Medium bodied with a little oomph, soft carbonation, dry finish with a trace of booze. A respectable enough ESB.

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig, 2012, London. Pours hazy orange with a fine, white cream head. Tangy citrus nose. Medium sweet flavor with tangy berries, wood, light funk, birch, dry lemon and other citrus. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Tangy finish with some woody dryness and tangerine. OK beer. Good effort for a UK brewery.

Bottle@chriso pre-gbbf shindig 2012. Hazy golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is spices, yeast, some fruityness as well as sweet malts. Flavour is being rather similar with the spicy and yeasty notes being more evident. Pleasantly balanced and smooth and hides the alcohol rather well.

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig, 2012. It pours cloudy golden, with pretty much no head. The nose is spice, dough, toast, banana and sweet tinned fruit. The taste is tinned pear, apple, melon, pear drops, banana, spice, subtle cucumber notes and a touch of celery. Alcohol is well hidden. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not bad.
