Description
The Atlantic Brewing Company began as Acadia Brewing in 1990. At first the brewery was located inside the Lompoc Cafe in downtown Bar Harbor and had a maximum capacity of just one barrel at a time. Within a few years the demand for our beers had grown so much that we moved the brewery two doors down from the restaurant and increased our capacity to seven-barrel batches. However, by 1998, we had outgrown that facility as well and so we moved again – this time to our current location on the Knox Road. Our estate brewery was built on the grounds of a 19th century Maine farmstead, that employs native vegetation and local stonework.
Atlantic Brewing Company has created a site to develop new and exciting small batch beers only seven barrels at a time. This pilot facility allows fellow brewers from around the state, country, and world to collaborate on unique recipes and formulations in a shared environment. These brews, together with Atlantic small batch beer, are offered in a tasting room setting. Flights, large pours, and growlers are available for purchase at the bar.

12 ounce bottle from Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, VA. Pours a clear dark red color with tiny floating particles. Big roasty notes in the aroma with light chocolate notes. Taste is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee a bit of a lactic note and a lightly hoppy finish. Medium bodied.

Bottle thanks to Seabass: Poured a dark brown with a tan color thin head. Aroma is sweet with sugar, fruits, molasses, and light heather. Taste is sugary caramel with just enough dark fruits to balance the flavor.

Pours dark brown with beige head. Aroma of dark fruits and caramel malts with a nice subtle nose of heather. Taste, brown sugar, malty, molasses, dark fruits (cherry/prune) with a very light touch of the heather giving the beer an interesting perrenial plant freshness instead of hops.

Bottle from Vintage Cellar. Near opaque brown color with a decent beige head. Aroma is quite chocolate. Plus fruits and nuts and stuff, but really chocolate. Medium body with coarse carbonation. Flavor is milky chocolate, with bitter burnt malt, and hints of floral hop. I think. Finishes with a slight touch of harsh bitter, but it’s mostly smooth. Very different porter - tastes good.

Bottle from Vintage Cellar. Dark amber color with a quickly gone whiteish head. Aroma of caramel/malt. Medium body with lightly fizzy carbonation. Flavor is mild roast caramel with a bit of light hop. It’s really tasty. Finishes less than dry, but tasty.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of cinnamon and blueberries. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of blueberries, leading to a dry and slightly acidic finish. The body is thin. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

12 oz bottle. Pours an amber color with a medium white head. Aroma is blueberry. Flavor is blueberry, not a ton of "beer" flavor - just a plain ale taste with light hops, malts. Slightly artificial, but enjoyable enough.

pours orange with thin white head that is quickly disappearing. Aroma of honey with a heavy syrupy side. Taste is again of honey with a bourbon like mouthfeel that later becomes a lot more sugary. Hefty abv that remains very enjoyable. Honey ale, barley wine, mead, you take your pick.

Bomber aged about 18 or so months, drunk early 2008. Another pale old ale, this one being a deep amber, with a wispy white head and a clear filtered body. Quite estery in the nose, with peach, apple and other fruits presenting themselves. They are swallowed by a strongly malty vanilla-honey-almond note that leads to a light mustiness (bottling line bacteria?) that is apparent in many of Atlantics older bottles. The flavor is very sweet and underattenuated, with a big brace of honey, maple and vanilla cream-like sugars that are only (somewhat) kept from cloying the palate by the weak, thinned-out mouthfeel and low carbonation. Oxidation and some cidery/vinegary notes begin to creep in on the finish, while crackery/crusty malts dry out the finish somewhat. Alcohol is well-concealed. Could do without the spicy phenols too (clove mainly).

12 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a dark ruby color with a small head. The aroma is odd, with maybe some infection notes... tart, nutty and with a bandaid note. Taste is caramel, nuts, toffee and that bandaid thing. Medium bodied.
