Description
The Atlantic Brewing Company began as Acadia Brewing in 1990. At first the brewery was located inside the Lompoc Cafe in downtown Bar Harbor and had a maximum capacity of just one barrel at a time. Within a few years the demand for our beers had grown so much that we moved the brewery two doors down from the restaurant and increased our capacity to seven-barrel batches. However, by 1998, we had outgrown that facility as well and so we moved again – this time to our current location on the Knox Road. Our estate brewery was built on the grounds of a 19th century Maine farmstead, that employs native vegetation and local stonework.
Atlantic Brewing Company has created a site to develop new and exciting small batch beers only seven barrels at a time. This pilot facility allows fellow brewers from around the state, country, and world to collaborate on unique recipes and formulations in a shared environment. These brews, together with Atlantic small batch beer, are offered in a tasting room setting. Flights, large pours, and growlers are available for purchase at the bar.

Bottle from Wine Cellar. Hazy golden tinged amber color with a slight white head. Aroma is ginger. Near medium body with frothy carbonation. The flavor is primarily ginger, though there seems to be a bit of breadiness underneath. This is a very good ginger. It keeps the spiciness right on through to the end.

Bottle. Pours a reddish brown with a big head that doesn’t let me get more than about half of the bottle into a pint glass. Aromas have a bit of funkiness to them and leaves me wondering about infection. Flavor has a bit of earthy malt, acidic peat and maybe some nut to it... Finishes off with a bit of a sour edge that is a nice touch.

Bottle: Dark brown with a huge, fluffy tan head. Mostly coffee and chocolate up front with some light bitterness. Roasty. Tastes heavy with roast into mellow chocolate and a little bittersweetness in the trailer. Some underlying coffee flavors. Smooth, well balanced, and flavorful. I forgot who sent this over the winter months, but cheers to them for this treat!

12 oz bottle. Very dark brown with a light tan head. Screwed up opening the bottle (darn unexpected screw-tops), so I have no idea what size the head would be otherwise. Anyhow, rich chocolate aroma with some roasted coffee notes. Flavor is chocolate, some dark fruit, roasted coffee. A little alcohol shows through. Not too bad.

Draft at McKay’s Public House. Very nice bitter with a good balance of hops and malts. It is clean and crisp as advertised — a nice summer beer. Clear copper body with a good-sized off-white head that diminished but didn’t disappear. Hoppy aroma of fruit with floral notes. Some malty grain, lightly toasted, and caramel. The flavor is lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. The finish is moderately bitter. Medium body with a watery texture and lively carbonation. Easy to drink more than one.
