Cask at Craft Beer Co, Islington on 8th February 2013. Deep ruby black with thin tan foam ring. Roasty aroma then smooth and roasty in-mouth with plenty of malt; chilli develops in finish to become a salient feature. Very smooth velvety texture and medium body.

50cl bottle from the brewery. A deep magohany colour with a beige head and a brilliant amber glow when caught by the light; the aroma has soft malts, and the expected ground coffee; in the mouth there’s some tart fruit at first that balances well against the creamy coffee body; before a rich coffee finish. Slightly thin, but otherwise an excellent coffee stout.

50cl bottle from the brewery. Dark chestnut with a rapidly fading white head - the pour was sparklingly clear at first, but it was hard to avoid the large amount of sedement, resulting in a rather cloudy finish; the aroma is malty and slightly spicy (from the yeast probably); the taste is malty and nutty; with a soft chocolatey finish. Very drinkable.

50cl bottle from the brewery. A dark cola brown pour with a rapidly fading tan head; chocolate aroma; milky body with a chocolate malt taste, the chilli is gentle and pleasantly warming. A rather good chilli stout.

50cl bottle from the brewery. A slightly hazy pour, cola-brown in colour with a ring of translucent head; aroma of deeply roasted malts and drinking chocolate; the taste is sweet, with well-done toast, chocolate milkshake, and some raspberry fruit; the finish is dry, soft and fruity. Very good indeed.

Pours dark brown with a bubbly head. Aroma of dark caramel, nutty notes, some toffee and malts. Taste is caramely with notes of nutty malts and sweet notes. Finish is sweetish with some caramely and nutty notes. Okay, enjoyable old ale.

(Cask at Gallows Bird Real Ale Festival ’13) The beer poured very dark brown. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had roasted malts, chocolate and ginger. Palate was quite full bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, chocolate, ginger, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was roasty and bitter. The ginger and the roasted malts were combined nicely.

Cask at the Nags Head, Reading. Pale amber with a thin white head; sweet vanilla aroma; the vanilla isn’t overpowering in the mouth, but certainly mutes the bitterness - the hops seeming quite tame; leaving a biscuity, dry finish. Rather odd, but drinkable.
