Description
Burdock brewery set up shop in what used to be an old Portuguese chicken restaurant, and they transformed the space into an artist-driven bar/restaurant/music hall/microbrewery run by a group of musicians and music lovers. They offer a rotating list of clean pale ales, complex saisons, crisp pilsners, zippy sours, and beer-wine hybrids that are all brewed in house.

(750ml bottle shared by Herbalist, thanks!) Pours lightly hazed medium red with a small pink-white ring and no lace. Aroma is bright red fruit, quite some raspberry with a little strawberry candy and sweet cherry, very soft acidity, just a suggestion of leathery Brett and barrel lurking behind. Flavour is much drier than the nose would suggest, fresh raspberry and red grape skins, maybe a little cherry candy in there too, good presence of oak and Brett giving a leathery quality, very light acidity, cereals poking through in the middle of the sip, finish is bone dry and quite mineral with grippy red wine tannins, oak, light phenolic pepper maybe, long bitter aftertaste. Fairly light body, fairly effervescent carbonation. Very different in character to the typical Burdock grape ale due to the limited wine input, much more of a beer than a hybrid, dry and refreshing but missing the pop of their best for me.

Cloudy, pale blond colour. Sour aroma, bit of lemon, metal. It's very juicy, the acidity is moderate, and there is a strong, and very nice, fruity component; bit of funk too, maybe grapes skins.
Very good.

This one is palish yellow, opaque, with a weak head. Delicate fruitiness, certainly got those down under hops, and a bit of grass, a bit of sweet orange. On the palate, a touch of sulphury match, but more bright citrus and light Australian hop accents. Pale malt base is light but holds up the hops well enough. Well, I'd say that an archetypical American Pale Ale is SNPA, and this is nothing like that. Archetypical Australian Pale Ale, that I could see an argument for.

Pale and hazy. Thick head, but it's weak. Aroma is grainy, some pale malt, and light lime. Light body, low bitterness, some lime, and again it comes across a bit grainy. Disappears quite quickly, too. Some yeastiness actually helps brighten it up a bit.
