Half pint draft at Hogshead in Denver, Colorado. The pour is mostly clear orange golden, with a smallish white head. The aroma is baking caramel maltiness, apple fruit notes, and a dry floral herbal. The taste is the caramel lightly sweet malt, balanced with the fresh floral herbal hops, which shows as a bit earthy in the taste. The palate is medium bodied, soft natural carbonation, and lingering chewy maltiness in the finish. Solid beer, nice integration of the malt and hop characters.

Half pint draft at Hogshead in Denver, Colorado. The pour is mostly clear yellow golden with a nice 1/2 inch white head that left behind nice lacing. The aroma is lightly sweet malt, a cracker crispness, and a grassy hay hop element. The taste is cracker malt nicely balanced with the grassy hop character. Very light amount of malt sweetness shows as the beer warms. The palate is light bodied, with nice bright carbonation and a crisp clean finish. Another super easy drinking beer from Hogshead.

Nonic pint draft at Hogshead in Denver, Colorado. The pour is a gold copper brown, with a small light tan head. The aroma is light cracker malt, paired with a bit of toffee sweet, then some crystal malt. The taste is caramel nutty crystal malt blended nicely with grassy dry floral hops. The palate is light bodied, with low soft natural carbonation, and a clean dry finish. Easy drinking session beer, quite well made. This beer really came together as it warmed, great balance.

Cask at Hogshead - I love this beer without the chocolate - why you would feel the need to add cocoa nibs is beyond me, as there is already plenty of chocolate flavor in the original - anyway, all the good qualities of the original are here - I will not bother retyping them here, as they are in my rating of that beer - the cocoa doesn’t improve the beer, but rather, diminishes the enjoyment - the cocoa adds a bitterness and acidity that make it much less smooth and easy to palate than the original - these qualities cover up some of the sweeter elements of the base beer - if you have a choice, get the regular Gilpin.

Cask at Hogshead - listed as "Denver’s Pride Premium Best" - glowing dark orange - this was dry hopped with Delta, and the hop seems a bit potent and spicy, making this drink more like an APA - a surprisingly bitter/hoppy brew for this brewer - however, there are some lovely, dry, earthy, whiskey-ish malt notes and a bit of sweet toffee and brig fruitiness through the middle - spicy, bitter finish - still quite good, but I will have to try it again soon with a different dry hop.

Tap @ Hogshead. What the fuck is up with the picture for this beer? Thank you, Jake! Pours a hazy dark reddish brown appearance with a tan, bubbly head. Rich caramel, a bit fruity, toffee, earthy aroma. A bit goopy/syrupy mouthfeel but not necessarily sticky. Tons of dried dark fruits, toffee, light bubblegum, mild citrus, black cherry, fig flavor. Great, fun stuff!

Tap @ Hogshead. Pours a fairly clear, burnt orange appearance with a small khaki head. Zesty, burnt caramel malty, fairly roasty, herbal aroma. Light clove, grainy burnt malty, rich caramel, very earthy flavor. A touch fruity.

Cask @ Hogshead. Dry-hopped with Fuggles. 5.0% abv. Pours a bit hazy dark reddish appearance with a creamy light brown head. Toffee, light butterscotch, a bit herbal, lightly bready yeasty aroma. Rich caramel, toffee, ale yeasty, herbal, fairly herbal bitter hoppy, a bit zesty buttery flavor that finishes fairly dry and bitter. My favorite on cask during this visit.

Cask @ Hogshead. Pours a deep reddish orange appearance with a cream colored head. Chocolate, toffee, mild dark fruity, a bit earthy aroma. A bit thin. Caramelized sugary, roasty, a bit nutty, chocolate, earthy flavor. Kind of disappointing.

Cask @ Hogshead. Dry hopped with Fuggles and Williamette. Pours a hazy golden orange appearance with a foamy, cream colored head. Light butter, chewy ale, lightly earthy, a bit fruity aroma. Chewy, bready yeasty, light butterscotch, a bit citrusy flavor. Not my favorite here but still a good session.
