Cask handpump at The Library, Cowley Road, Oxford, Thursday 17th December 2015 Pours reddy amber with a sticky, clingy white head. There is clearly a little spice in here actually quite a bit, hoppiness is muted, more straightforward spiced up malt driven bitter. It’s in good condition, it’s fine but it ain’t my thing really. Cask at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury, Thursday 5th November 2015. Golden beer with the merest of haze and with a slim white head atop. Fruity beer but any chilli is noticeable only by its absence. Middling bitterness, it’s fine but it’s quite safe. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov11 3.0

Cask, gravity at The Hop Pole (shop) Aylesbury, Thursday 29th October 2015. Pours dark gold in colour with a bubbly white head. Aroma is a little fruity. Taste is somewhat bland, in fact I have to say despite the presence of a cooling jacket this tastes warm and not so fresh, it is a little dusty hop, light fruitiness but flat and really drab, quite the opposite of what I was expecting. Cask at The Hop Pole,o Aylesbury, Thursday 29th October 2015. Amber in colour, very traditional with a bubbly white head. The English hops ensure that this is a fairly typical bitter, a little citrus but also a bit earthy. It’s ok but nothing special. I would have been tempted to have left it way back then if I was ABC. Cask at the Bell, Waltham St Lawrence. Pale amber with a loose white head; sweet grainy aroma; full bodied with a bitter sweet barley sugar taste and a dry finish. A satisfying bitter.

Cask, gravity at The Hop Pole (shop), Thursday 10th September 2015. This pours mid amber in colour with a little light film across the surface. This has a sweet malty profile but underneath there is a buzzy bitterness, the NZ hops are showing ok and there is a furry edge to this, it’s fine but not as good as the Jet Stream. Bottle from the Vale Brewery stand at the Bucks County Show for just a quid! Bit of a gusher when I opened it, but not too bad- caught most of it anyway. Hazy orange with a big craggy white head and quite a lot of fizz. Funky farmyard whiff, and some white pepper up front followed by a little sharp lemon. There’s a quick snatch of set honey at the back of the throat but it’s very muted and probably adds more to the consistency (which is reasonably full-bodied for the low abv) than it does to the flavour. There’s a brief burst of sharp and slightly bitter minerality before a dry finish. Overall a reasonable beer and quite interesting, especially considering the low price.

Cask, gravity at The Hop Pole (shop), Thursday 10th September 2015. This poured mid gold in colour with a slight white rim of bubbles and a few skittering across the top, excellent clarity. I was informed that this beer was based on Gravitas but with a few tweaks, I have not had Gravitas for a while but I think I could recognise some similarity though the malt profile seemed a little different and the bitterness a little harsher here. Some furry bitterness across the roof of the mouth a little lemony, and with a lingering bitterness. Pretty good. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov14 3.4

Handpull cask at the Bedford Arms, Bedford. Golden brown, without much obvious carbonation or head. Caramel, toffee and wood with a curious note of sweet potato, mango and citrus. Excellent balanced taste. Sweet at first with the bitterness keeping it in check. Oily body but the mouthfeel is nice. I like this quite a lot.

Cask, gravity at The Hop Pole (shop) Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, Thursday 20th August 2015 Dark gold with a filmy white head. A light buzzy bitterness but there is very little else to shout about here, a little fruit, quite safe and shy in in all aspects, it is easily swamped by the Gates of Valhalla (tried alongside) both hoppiness and taste wise. Ok A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov11 3.0
