Seems fitting to have this one outdoors, especially as the temperature has now dipped above freezing. Easy strength stout, not quite as sweet as expected from its beer notes, but has some. Crisp keg pour, clear dark amber-brown colour. Fairly regular in design

Cask at Fat Cat (Kelham) - Brown body, thin white head. Fruity malts, bit of spice, fairly uninspiring amongst some good beers.

Not my favourite bitter from Manchester but managed to drink several pints on New Year's Eve in Dutton's, Bramhall.

Merry Christmas to beer drinkers everywhere. A small bottle, last of a three bottle selection purchased online from the brewery, the previous two rated back in the Ratebeer days. Aroma: malt, raisins, port. Appearance: opaque mulligatawny soup, no head to speak of. Palate: creamy on the tongue, boozy hit at the back of the mouth, negligible carbonation; finish is warming, long and lingering, alcoholic strength is subtle. Taste: heavily sweet with malt, rock candy, and some butter. A nice winter warmer, great mouthfeel, but far too sweet. After eleven years of cellaring I would have expected something a little more sophisticated.

Bottle pour at the DCBeer December 2025 share. Poured a murky copper color, very wispy head. Aroma was peaty, lots of Lagavulin. Sweet malts, raisin, but not overly sweet. A particular thing to note given the age of this - 10 years. Terrific. Really held up.

A golden ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, light biscuit malt with grassy British hops, light mineral notes, pleasant. In mouth, a nice crisp biscuit malt with grassy hops, light mineral notes, light cereal, pleasant. Bottle at Escape lounge, STN.

An episode of Dangermouse saw him being chased by a wild goose. Clear golden lager, not one to chase after too vigorously although it's quite steady and clean giving it a good mouthfeel, crisp enough. Kölsch style apparently.

Castle Mill is an historic watermill in Knaresborough. This Castle Mill is very dark coloured, take your pick with mahogany or very dark copper. A sweetish mild ale, which has a crisp keg pour on this occasion. Aroma more conventional. Good drinking.
