Christmas tasting at the Kernel. Another one courtesy of Leighton - Cheers Man! Clear amber beer, good bubbly cream coloured head. Strange grainy malts at first but once the beer breathed for a few mins it all but dissapated. Marmaladey hops. Citrussy orange and lemon with a trace of pine. Dry finish.

Deep dark brown coloured body, a touch muddy at the bottom with a very thick, three centimetre tall tan head that leaves a nice lace. Aroma of very light earthy hops, a nice toasted malt note, some brown sugar, raisins and a touch of light spices. Medium-bodied; Nice mix of fresh, but low alpha acid hops with a good robust malt, complete with an earthiness behind and a little sugar, as well as a touch of alcohol. Aftertaste shows some more complex and well-rounded tastes, showing mostly earth, malt and a faint hop bitterness. Overall, a nicely and well-done brown that shows good characteristics and a non-obtrusive finish. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Wegman’s in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on 22-July-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 29-September-2011.

Shared a 22 oz bottle with LiveFREEorRYE. Used a snifter. A nice hazy orange with lots of floating particles in the liquid. Sheets of lacing all the way down, with nice thick full white head. Pleasing blend of wet hops on the nose. Taste is a perfect balance of sweet malt and big hope profile. Grapefruit, pine and European hops. Nice tones of malt makes your thirst for more. Excellent brew, if you see it, pick up a bottle before it is gone. Nice!

The bottle caught my eye the other day. Pours a cloudy orange amber color with a two finger fluffy/bubbly white head that recedes slowly but leaves lots of sticky lace all the way down. Smells of citrus and pine mostly. I can’t find much in the way of malt but I do pick up a hint of garlic. Bready toasty flavor up front before the hops dig in. Lots of pine and garlic or onion and a bit of citrus. Bready almost caramel malt sweetness comeback midway until the piney hops come back for the finale. Medium body and carbonation level with a resinous bitter mouthfeel. Good beer, not great. Seems one dimensional and a little bit boring but grew on me after a while.

has no one put together that this isnt a brown ale, that its a black ipa? the roasted malts and hop spiciness are a pretty clear giveaway as far as im concerned. really nice roasty-coffee flavor up front, and a nice citrusy hop twinge in the back. nice one from ipswich.

on tap-pours a dissipating off white head and cloudy orange color. Aroma is grapefruit/lemon/perfumy, light malt. Taste is pepper/spice/grassy, lemon/perfumy hops, light malt, some yeast. Probably the best gluten free beer I’ve had. 3.6******************* *120621-12oz bottle @Tampa Weekly thanks GatorGuy92-pours yellow/gold with a white ring. Aroma is yeast, spice, light malt. Taste follows with some perfumy phenols. Not the same beer I had on tap at the brewpub, not even close. 2.4 Will leave the original score, just updating here for my notes.

12 oz. bottle got at the local quick stop. Honey yellow. Nose of flowers and natural honey, quite nice. A nice blend of wheat, honey and floral hops. Medium bitterness in the finish. Very simple brew but still has some drinkability. ok.

Pours deep amber into a shaker. Off-white head with good retention recedes to hug rim. Resin, caramel, and alcohol aromas. Sweet hot caramel upfront turning to pine before the lasting grapefruit finish.
