Innovation Passion and Knowledge in all we do - and to have some fun along the way. The Thornbridge story began back in 2005 when the founders Jim Harrison and Simon Webster recruited two young brewers to brew on a second hand 10-barrel kit in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall. Soon demand outstripped supply and the need for a new Brewery became clear. In 2009 a brand new state of the art brewery was built at Riverside, Bakewell to meet with demand and allow Thornbridge to develop their range of beers.
Brewing still takes place today on the original kit at Thornbridge Hall, which allows us to experiment with new brews, create bespoke Hall brews, collaborations and assist the main brewery in Bakewell.

Can. Pretty much a clear very deep amber - brown beer, decent bubbly tan head. Smooth palate, a mild dryness, decent fine carbonation. Rich malts, a little creamy sweetness, dark toffee, not that sweet, some dark honey and a touch of molasses. Smooth ripe fruits and some estery candy fruits on the close. Good depth of flavour for the style and the abv sails on by unnoticed. Nice, Thornbridge rarely let you down and this is no exception. Can't remember the last time I enjoyed a brew of this style so much.

Toasted and sweet malty and fruity with notes of caramel and some toffee apple, light citrusy stewed orange, biscuity malts, nice malty layers, soft cask carb, bitter hoppy and malty close. Nice one.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours an amberish red with minimal off-white head. There’s malts, caramel and a hint of butter in the aroma. In the mouth it starts off sweet and creamy with a slightly watery texture, but bitterness comes through very quickly. Flavour starts with Belgian hops, yeast and caramel, but a lot of extra layers come through later. Cake and marzipan plus hints of biscuits and apricots leading to a dry and slightly sharp finish. This is decent but not really an ESB, more a best bitter.

Cask taster. Thornbridge. Because I’m not paying a penny for something with SMODs name attached to it. Clear amber. Slim white head. Nose has caramel. Vinous notes. Light toasty grain. Cake mix. Taste is semi sweet with some fruity nutty bitterness. Feels a tad thin. Has a light sourness throughout. Dry-ish finish.

440ml can. Clear golden with a big white head. Aroma of grapefruit juice and peel, resinous, orange. Taste of fresh grapefruit juice, and peel, orange, resinous, assertive and lingering bitterness. Medium bodied. Nice riff on Jaipur, grapefruit is the overriding flavour and it works nicely, but does hide the hop flavour somewhat.
