Description
Founded in Herefordshire.
Pressed, fermented, and bottled in Gloucestershire.
Dunkertons history reaches back to 1980 when Ivor and Susie Dunkerton made the decision to escape London and buy a small holding in Pembridge, Herefordshire. They realised that with such a small amount of land they needed to specialise in some form of agriculture and spotted that traditional cider making presented a fantastic opportunity.
In 2014 Ivor and Susie passed Dunkertons to their son Julian and his business partner Bean.
In 2016 the production business relocated to our new state of the art cidery at Dowdeswell Park, Cheltenham.

Bottle from Eko Plaza. Clear golden with sort lasting fizzy head. Sweet apple juice, apple pie, a lot of farmyard funk, quite leathery, oak, dry whisky, apricot, wite wine. It's actually quite sweet, and ligt sour and bitter. Solid medium body, sparkly carbonation and medium dry. Nice, but quite sweet.

Bottle from Sainsbury's Berryden, Aberdeen. It pours clear pale greenish - gold with a quickly dissipating fizzy white head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, crunchy apple, apply skin, dried apple, perfumed, melon, touch of pear drops, woody, splash of apple brandy and a hint of sherbet. The taste is crisp, firmly dry, bitter - sweet, ripe sweet apple, dried apple, white sugar, melon, sweet white grape, kick of alcohol boost, touch of apple cider vinegar, fleeting acidity, dry oak and light tannin with a drying finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Errs a touch of the sweet side for my tastes, but it drinks well.

Pint at Mother Kelly's Nine Elms. Pours a light hazy over an orange body. Fizzy. Bright apple, some neutral wood, a little green grape and acid. Flavor is juicy and funky, some bright acid and light wood. Well balanced and nearly dry.

660ml bottle. Had many times years ago, but curiously not rated. Misty yellow appearance, gentle sparkle. Quite tangy with musty fruit, desert apple notes with a nice pokey strength. High juice. Good characterful cider.

I was feeling a bit guilty about enjoying this one, as it's basically a cider made more appealing by the addition of adjunct fruit and spices. Then it was important to acknowledge the sheer quantity of beer out there with fruit, or vanilla, or whatever, that basically uses these adjuncts to mask a very average beer, in many cases. Anyway, it pours a murky ditchwater colour. The carbonation is gentle. The nose is of apple strudel with cinnamon, brown sugar and baked apple notes coming together nicely. The taste keeps the promise in what is a light to medium bodied cider. Overall, no need to feel guilty about enjoying this, it's enjoyable!
