Cask at the Evening Star, Brighton on 5th April 2010. Gold with small white head. Fruity with citric undertone, bitter herby kick and light textured mouthfeel.

Cask at Marble Arch. A brown beer with a red shine under a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of sweet and roasted malt as well as lighter notes of soy sauce and chocolate. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt, leading to a dry, bitter, and roasted finish. The body is light.

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy dark orange with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty and hops fruity. Sweet and roasted malty flavoured with a distinct peachy hops fruity note. Nice fruity to the caramelish malt. Bitter and dry into the far finish with crisp fruity note.

Cask@Marble Arch Inn, Manchester. Clear yellowish gold colour with a lingering mid sized white head. Guess what ? Nose was heavy on the ginger, what a surprise.. Flavour was peppery, spicy, ginger dominated, but there was some fruit and hops lurking too, which rescued it from all out gingerdom.. Dryish finish. I’m not a massive ginger fan, can’t stand Chris Evans, but I did quite enjoy this on the whole. Not something I’d want to drink too much of however.

Cask at the Marble Arch in Manchester. Slightly darker amber color. Fresh, fruity aroma. More malty than the first 2 beers, a bit sweet and with strong caramel flavor. Decent hops, though less aggressive than the other two I had here. A bit maltier, and less compex.

Cask at the Brewery in Manchester (August 07). Golden color with a slight tinge of red. Hoppy, fruity aroma with some citrus; very fragrant. Amazing fruit flavor; lots of citrus, but the overall effect is not sour. Good malt-slightly sweet but again with excellent hop balance. Fruity, hoppy finish.

Cask at the Marble Arch. Light amber color, but amazingly full flavored. Fruity, rounded, with a little citrus. Great hops, but with excellent balance and a slight bubblegum hint as well. A truly great bitter--surely one of the most impressive I can remember, and in tip-top shape at the brewpub.

2009 Bottle, shared with Moldovan Alex@ArroweP. I’d been keenly anticipating breaking this bad boy open, but was really blown away by just how stonkingly good this is. A hazy amber pour with a lingering small tan head. Simply gorgeous fragrant hoppage in all areas; sort of put me in mind of SN Bigfoot, but this is way better. Silky smooth mouthfeel. This really dances on the palate, headspins, backflips , the works.....The balance is just bang on the money with the sweetness and bitterness exquisitely in proportion. A real treat and surely a world class brew. Here’s to the North of England !

Bottle shared at Mes’s. Having so thoroughly enjoyed the Decadence, I was excpecting great things here and sadly this was a wee bit of a let down. Quite simply, it was too raspberry ripple and not enough stout. Whilst having the dark looks of a stout, the taste had a lurid somewhat sickly sweet artificial quality. The nose put forward lots of fruit certainly, but I wasn’t ready for quite how much. The finer qualities of the decadence were just too smothered, but that isn’t to say I didn’t find some enjoyment here. I did find a strange drinkability lurking within which salvaged what might have been a lower score.

Bottle 75cl. @ chriso - Night of the Gaylords.Clear light to medium amber color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, heavy hoppy, orange, glue, plum, light alcohol. Flavor is heavy sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily to creamy, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic. [20091229]
