Low, dense head with a touch of colour. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Balanced taste, mainly roasted malt, chocolate, some coffee, light fruitiness. Dry earthy finish. Good stout.

Time capsule beer with the news today whilst i'm drinking this including of the election of Pope Leon XIV, the UK does a trade deal with the US which lowers President Trump's recent tariffs, and the 80th anniversary events for VE Day take place. I tentatively opened this beer as the first one for an evening of drinking given that ginger has the potential to ruin subsequent beers, but whilst it's evident it's light in this instance. It's also hardly noticeable in aroma.

[75cl bottle from my local Sainsbury’s.] An amber pour with a thick cream coloured head; yeasty aroma; creamy in the mouth with some fruity yeast, cereal grains; and a light biscuity finish with a little spicy bitterness. Better than expected.

Bottle at home picked up from sainsbury. A dark mahogany brown black coloured pour with lasting khaki head. Aroma is mellow earthy roast, toasted nutmeg, dried apple, woody, dusty grains, tangy dark berries. Palate is semi sweet, light tang, moderate carbonation. Flavour is composed of semi sweet layered dark malts, tangy dark chocolate, fig, treacle, Christmas spicy, cinnamon, dried fruit. Decent.

According to my own stats I sampled 57 new beers during the mini-break I took the last four days (plus a few already hads too) - so I've resisted the urge to leave the house and taking it easy with this one from the cellar this evening. Very golden with a glow, nice carbonation. This hop comes across a little gritty and bready in taste.

Unusual or not, I've actually had some regular hot cross buns earlier today too. There's no sweetness here like you get from the baked product, but a similar breadiness is found in this instance. It's subtle along with its malts but very flavoursome.
