Bottle 275ml. [ BBF0990 ]. Clear light to medium amber color with a small, fizzy, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, oxidide. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is flat. [20090802]

Bottle from Sainsburys. Red-amber in colour with a slight, off-white head. Earthy malt and sweet fruit aroma. Flavour of barley sugar, with some more earthiness and short bitter finish. Unmemorable.

50cl bottle from Sainsburys. Reddish copper with a fast fading white head, and moderate carbonation; aroma of rich, slightly spicy, caramel malts; spicy fruit flavours; and a lightly spiced sweet bitter finish with perhaps a touch of lemon. Not bad for GK.

Cask at the Brook, Mill Road, Cambridge. Reddish copper with a thin cream head; apple aroma; sour apple flavour with good malts in support; let down by a cloying finish.

Has a nice hoppy aroma to it, though a little sweetness and alcohol that don’t seem too promising. Looks okay I guess, though the incredibly clear look to it isn’t great, nor is the head. Has a nice malty Belgian taste to it, some fruitiness, but not overpowering. Interesting beer but not a particularily great one.

Really faint aroma of hops, some sourness in the nose too. Looks very below average, no head, weak colour. Tastes weak, slightly hoppiness, slightly watery finish. Nothing special in this specially brewed brew.

[500ml bottle at Tara & Ian’s - cheers!] Deep amber, moderate creamy head, very little fizz. Thick, smooth mouthfeel. Heady, almost vinous aroma. The flavour is a rich mix of oak, toffee and fruit. Unfortunately the finish is a little sweet and syrup-y, which contrasts unpleasantly with the metallic bitterness of pasteurisation.

On tap at a pub just south of the Tower Bridge. Faint scent of hops, has no real head to speak of, but again I’m pretty sure that’s intentional. Taste of a mix of hops and more fruity Belgian flavours in there, a good mix of taste but also a little watery; maybe that means it’s not too overpowering.
