Description
In 1965, Lacons were taken over by a Whitbread who closed Lacons down in 1968. Subsequently reclaimed independence in 2013 and started brewing again.

Early on, beers were produced under a number of names, including Courtyard and Wilbur Wood. Launched under the Lacon's Name in May 2013.

Based in Norfolk, Lacons Brewery is home to Lacons Encore, the award-winning amber beer. Our brewing team is committed to using the highest quality Norfolk malt along with the original Lacons yeasts. Developed over 100 years ago and used in every brew, endowing all our new beer with centuries of brewing heritage.

Call at the old black bull, Preston. Pours clear pale gold, thin white head. Light soap, light bread aromas. Taste is more of the same, lemon notes too. Light sweet malty finish.

Cask at the Red Lion, Histon. Red brown with a large creamy head. Light yeasty smell, slightly metallic. Slight hints of caramel, cinnamon, bay leaves. A smooth fruity bittersweet taste fades to a tenacious bitter in the back of the throat. Very bitter aftertaste. An odd beer but very drinkable. Nice to see a ’new’ brewery rising from the dead.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - golden with a decent head. Nose - honey, malt and lemon. Taste - more honey than lemon, quite sweet, but decent. Palate - light to medium bodied with a big tangy sweet note and a fairly decent finish. Overall - decent beer.

Bottle shared with AshtonMcCobb. Get to Norfolk Tasting. Pours clear pale gold with a thin white head. Aromas of lemon, butterscotch, cereal grains. Taste is bready sweet, lemon and lime. A blessed relief after the last three beers.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - hazy golden with at least initially a decent head. Nose - lemon and citrus. Sweet malt background. Taste - lemon, honey and malt. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy and slightly tangy texture and a reasonable finish - could do with a bit more hop bitterness though. Overall - inoffensive and solid.

Cask at Maypole, Cambridge. It pours deep amber-brown with a small white head. The nose is wood, orange, grapefruit, candied peel, fruit cake, wood, spice and toffee. The taste is bitter, toasty, brown bread, booze, raisin, fruit, stewed orange, pink grapefruit, wood, resin and hint of smoke with a dry, citric finish. Fulsome body, soft carbonation and viscous mouth-feel. Good depth and rather punchy. Perhaps a bit boozy, but I kind of like it...

Cask gravity at FILO, Hastings, Saturday 3rd May 2014 Mid amber but cloudy with slim white head, the description suggests Lychees and Passion fruit, I don’t quite get that but it is tangy, fruity. Dry and with a robust quite rough bitterness. Quite a rustic but decent bitter. A6 A3 T7 P3 Ov13 3.2
