Description
For years we brewed beers in our basement when we read an article in October 2010 about the Brouwland beer competition. We decided to risk our chances and sent our version of a Trappist beer, a dark beer, full malt, of 10%.In March 2011 we were informed that we were selected for the final. Beginning in April 2011 was ultimately the final. The seven finalist beers were tasted by beer connoisseurs, Zythologists Rijckers Anne and Yannick De Cocteau and some Belgian brew masters like Paul Arnott (Dubuisson), and Jean-Marie De Rock (Orval). The first beers were tasted and judged one for one, much was noted. Mutually there was not much talk together ,until they started our beer (the final seven beers were tasted in order of alcohol). All jurors began to talk to each other and two of them even gave us a thumbs up. Then, we knew it was good. After fifteen minutes of deliberations they announced the winner … Vliegend Paard Brouwers from Oedelem with their Préaris Quadrupel.

28 May 2018. At Cambrinus. Shared with Anke.
Pours clear yellow with a small, foamy, white head; little lacing. The aroma contains lemon, soapy coriander, wheat, white bread, white sugar, banana, dough, lemon juice. It tastes light wheaty sour and light to medium spicy bitter, some sugar & bread in the back. Clove & coriander notes increasing towards a dry, spicy & wheaty finish with some grassy hop bitterness. Medium/light body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. It could have been an unusual Witbier (which I expected from Préaris), but alas.

Many thanks to Kappldav123 for sharing! Refreshing funky beginning. Nice mild malts, refreshing with fruity hints. Can't taste a special fruit there, pomegranates probably, but can be sourish cherries or something else as well. The fruits are very well hidden in the back, the body is smooth and refreshing, nice funk and moderate lactic acid there. Nice though.

Bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck, Vichte, West Flanders, Belgium, consumed Saturday 26th May 2018 at Bearded Theory Festival. Probably mid gold on the pour (but poured into a green plastic festival glass) One of the better beers today. A nice wheaty edge, good bit of oomph from the abv, fruity. Most enjoyable. Bottle at home. Looks simple but good. Beer in the glass light yellow, small head. Mild lemon aroma. Starts very mild, fruity notes of lemon, very light sourish notes. Hints of apricot. Salty touch in the finish. Finish a bit boring. Okay.

33cl bottle in the beer garden of Bier Paleis, Brugge on a very sunny afternoon (15th May 2018). Struggled to find any pomegranate esters or flavours, but a welcomed low alcohol beer for the mini session my wife and had in the sun. Light, pale golden body, wispy white head. Mild citrus notes and a yeasty base in the nose. Taste wise it was pretty basic, with weak tropical fruits (minus any pomeranate) seemed to be the main flavouring. Glad the wife was there to share it.
